Dual chnl or three chnl DDR3 is determined Mobo architecture, the type of cpu, cpu socket/chipset used, LGA1366 is three chnl, or LGA1156 is dual chnl, the three chnl has higher bandwidth compared to the two chnl, here is a 3chnl link, includes a pointer to 2chnl

You should mention the model of the camcorder also, some flavors of compressed video can be strenuous on a system if you are trying to view them at full quality. -

Sorry I didn’t notice this question, I’ve been rushing around the past week or so, No! it doesn’t have a video capture card, and without a express card slot you can’t add a capture device like a Matrox MX02 mini or it also doesn’t have a USB 3 port so adding a device like the BlackMagic Desigh Intensity pro shuttle is also out of the question, the way the current dv6 is configured it can not handle anything except newest tapeless consumer camcorders which transfer via USB or flash card readers, any tape camcorder are out of the questions, as a general purpose editing machine it is serverely limited to low quality usb capture devices -
To add to what Alex said, rendering is mostly tied to processor power, your machine is running 4 cores at 2gig, a tad under powered for some of todays video codecs, also even though CS4 is enhanced to use some parts of a 64bit system its still 32bit software and only can use 4gigs of memory

Why rip to mpeg4(xvid), you are taking highly compressed and compressing it even higher, just rip to mpeg2 or copy the VOB files to your video harddrive and try as is or rename the files from VOB to mpeg and try.

AVI is a generic term and can cover a multitude of codecs, usually the SD avi preferred is DV .avi -

Sometimes what you have to do is find a friendly cam shop that has demo filters, and then try them on your cam to get the ones that you like, those filter companies that I gave you in another post have the types of FX difusion filters that you maybe looking for.
Another way to accomplish the same is to do it in your photoeditor if doing stills, you can get better control over your FX
