One way is for then to find a friend or rent a Sony HDV tape camcorder, and down convert in the cam and record on a settop DVD recorder

If you are going to be shooting in rooms you might want to get a wide angle lens, X0.6 or X0.7, your filter dia is 43mm so you would need to get a lens to match that, canon sells a X0.7, there are other brands, if you get one too cheap you might have alot of distortion, another thing is most add-on lenses don’t have filter threads and it not a good idea to stack filters and add-on lenses to the cam’s lense. Tiffen and Hosa make inexpensive filters, a couple of Neutral Density, a UV lens for scratch protection, polorizing lens to reduce reflection

Like I mentioned the HV30 only uses Firewire or HDMI for video transfer, most computers with HDMI ports are video out only ports, to capture via HDMI with a laptop you need a external device like a Matrox MX02mini(type 34 express card), a BlackMagic Design Intensity Pro Shuttle(USB3), or AJA io Express, these are not inexpensive solutions, the least expensive is firewire.

One reason I was recommending color correction first is sometimes just having the proper color tends to make the video appear crisper, if further attention is necessary sometime a tad of sharpening can help but has to be done very carefully as not to over do it. -
If you are trying to connect to download video you need to use firewire or HDMI capture, USB is for images.

If you are having problems with win7 firewire you may need to change the firewire controller driver in the Device Manager, the one that comes with win7 is a upgraded one and may not work with some chipsets, open up the “IEEE1394 bus host controllers” right click on the listed controller, select “update driver”, select browse my computer, then select “let me pick from a list” you will see a list of drivers, one will have (legacy) along side it, select it.
You didn’t mentione what brand/model of camcorder you have, some have a AUTO setting for selecting the capture, make sure its in either the HDV or DV mode, what ever you are going to capture with, select this with the computer off or the firewire disconnected, hotplugging firewire can blow ports. -
Like Mike said the audio is probably a seperate file, if you don’t tell media encoder under the multiplexing tab to mux the Mpeg it will export elemetal streams for use with Encore, you have to make sure you have multiplexing set if you want audio/video in one stream

A HDR-HC5 is a Sony camcorder, the footage from the canon looks like the cam wasn’t setup correctly, It appears the white balance is not correct and focus may be off
