I use mostly eSATA/USB docking stations or eSATA Raid arrays for external drives, I use mostly WD Black or enterprise drives, 1 TB or better.

Just load it in the default location on c: drive, and use your raid for media storage, once an app is loaded into memory, little is done except housekeeping activities or internal module swapping.

Did you go into the “Play/Out Setup” menu and select “AV/PHONES” and make sure the PHONES icon is showing? The Phones receptable is also shared with the AV out.

Here is a link to Canon’s consumer camcorders in the price range you are asking about, sone have mic input jacks and some have manual focus, you can research the link and find what you want.

If you tried to record the tape on another camcorder and it didn’t work, its probably a faulty tape

You have to supply more information about your computer and software, when you reinstalled your software did you install it in the same order as before?

Most of the Canons sold now only have a low light mode listed, same for Sony, the Canon SD version cams(fs31,fs300) have a “Night Mode” listed, but whether this is a true “Night Shot” mode where the IR filter is removed from the optical path or a slow shutter mode you would have to check with Canon Sales to verify it.

September 7, 2010 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Exporting to desired aspect ratio

[Dirk van Tonder] “i just would like to know if there is a way to convert my 720 x 576 .AVI file to 720 x 480 aspect ratio, while keeping the same quality and not having any footage missing from changing the aspect ratio. (and keeping it all in PAL).”
Why are you trying to convert from a 720×576 format(PAL) to a 720×480 format(NTSC), to keep it all in PAL and maintain proper viewing aspect whether 16:9 or 4:3 you have to use a 720×576 pixel matrix and change the virtual pixel aspect according to the screen.

Are you going to be shooting in HD or SD? Pro cams or consumer?

[Marvin Chang] “I tried to use HDMI connect HV30 to mu computer, but it didn’t recognize HV30.”
Like I said before, HDMI port on most computers is video out only for use with a tv or video monitor, to capture you need a firewire port or external device with HDMI input.
