    with C4D 10.5 on OSX 10.4.11 Boole is much faster than it was on C4D 9.6. A change in performance is odd though… done any maintenance lately (Onyx, that sort of thing)?

    The texture should not have it’s pixels bigger than the screens pixels or you see them, so it depends on how much of the screen your object with the texture on it occupies. Your screen is 1920×1080 and if the object never occupies more than 1/2 the screen you really only need a texture 1/2 the size of the screen (well a bit bigger probably). If you are going to zoom way in on the object the texture would have to be much bigger (as big as needed – you don’t know until you know how close you are going to get)

    well, speed of the machine is important. I’ve been rendering 004_Blur.c4d with my Mac quad 2.66 and getting 40 minutes per render (1280×1024). With GI, AO and Caustics turned on it can’t be fast no matter what.

    Caustics taken out doesn’t help speed much (a minute or two), AO removed doesn’t help much either and they both add to the image so leave them.
    The GI is always expensive in terms of time so that’s got to be the place to tweak. I would increase the GI – Max Resolution unless you just can”t and then make sure your transparent textures (the glass and water etc.) have Generate GI, Receive GI and possible Receive Caustics turned off since GI usually isn’t noticeably different with GI on or off. There are notes on things to tweak for time improvement in the Help. Check out “Speeding Up GI”

    the scene would be helpful, there are too many ways to make it slow to know what is causing the slowness without knowing how the scene is made.

    Should be able to do it with soft selection, are you using Surface mode? The other thought is to make it by lathing a spline of the right shape.

    I haven’t been playing with TP for a while so I was just going by feel. The particles don’t move right without MI, the first bounce is wrong without Velocity Inheritance in the Deflector but they pick up speed with each bounce thereafter so there must be too much energy being picked up. So I transfer them into a new group (pre-first collision to post – first collision) and took out some energy, I tried various settings of MI and VI but I thought 50/100 looked most natural, strictly a by eye thing. Of course with you doing a snow globe you may be taking enough energy out to make slow ‘snow’ in water that you only have to tweak the Energy/Friction/Bounce settings and may not need a new group at all. That’s just a guess, some experimentation will be needed.

    Select all the polys, if the normals are some in and some out do an Functions/Align Normals – if they are all in do a Functions /Reverse Normals. If it still doesn’t render remove the hair (all the bits) and apply again now that the normals are going the right way
