I don’t think it can be done like that. You would need Thinking Particles like this, just a quickie using the TP Presets in the Content Browser, it can be done with a single xpresso tag.

It can be done by passing a Noise node into the Intensity port of a light in XPresso, like this. You can try the different noise types, adjust Frequency/Scale for timing, Amplitude for light/dark level and check Positive Only if you want the light always on but varying and uncheck if you want periods of darkness…

Hopefully I’m not stating the obvious here but also be aware that Show Animated (with Automatic Mode on) toggles between showing all objects in the scene and only the animated ones. With Automatic Mode off you have drag the object in (or right-click/Animation/Show Track) to see keys/curves.
