  • I thought you wanted to maintain tweakability, why do you want to do a Current State to Object?

  • You don’t have to use the Null, both the Shear and Bend can be children of the Helix (the order they are in will make a difference) and that will allow you to sweep Cycloid along the Helix the way (I think) you want.

you just have to keep one pixel of your texture image from getting any bigger than one pixel of your rendered final image. So you have to know how big the object is going to be in the final render, if it stays far away and is never bigger than 100 pixels across in the render (for example) then the texture doesn’t need to be any bigger than 100 pixels (I’m assuming a one sided example for simplicity here). If you zoom right in on your object the texture is going to have to be bigger… how big depends on final image size and the size of the ‘target object’ in that render but I don’t know of any way to figure that out other than trying it out.

There are some organic shaders on Maxons site in the Downloads/Materials and Goodies section that might get you started

another possibility is to toss all the objects in a null and place the texture on that and use Frontal for the mapping.

yes, that’s what Objet ID is for. Add a Compositing Tag and enable one of the Object Buffers, the Object ID in Glow is the buffer number you used.

“Glows cannot be seen through transparent objects, nor in reflections. The glow you specify here does not act as a light; other parts of the scene will not be lit by the glow, nor will any shadows be cast. Glows are restricted to a maximum image resolution of 4,000 x 4,000 pixels. When using object motion blur, glow applied to lights may cause colors to overlap.”

If you have AR you can use the glow there which does not have a size limitation (or it’s bigger than I’ve tried).

https://virtualhiker.sourceforge.net/file-formats.html (maybe useful – haven’t had time to test) — [edit] nope too old

https://www.jizoh.jp/english.html (don’t know if it will read SDTS but it will save greyscale that can be used as displacement data)
