sweeping is going to be tough, even if you get the spline type and division right to closely follow the shape, the cross section of the tube gets bigger as it goes around the corners (compared to the straight parts) so it won’t be wide enough in the corners. A rail spline would not help, you could make the scale bigger in the corners but that would make the entire cross section bigger and it would thicker, not just wider, at the corners.
A Loft using circles in Ellipse mode could work since you could increase the width of the ellipse without making it thicker.
    Other than that…

  • you need to use Particle groups. Put each separate stream of particles in a Particle Group then use the groups in the Follow Splines. Each group will only follow it’s own spline then.

it still may be a good way to go

what you described should work without caching. That is usually only needed for situations where the position of the collider changes or simply to make the simulation faster as you scrub, you take a memory hit but the cloth engine does not have to calculate the cloth every frame. It does not sound like it’s the solution here though. Can you post the scene?

make an integer slider with a range of 1 – 3 and run that through a range mapper to give whatever degree range you want into the knob’s rotation (whichever axis fits with your setup)

I was wondering if the collider is animated, the usual “something pushes through a curtain” sort of thing. That can cause trouble (it needs to be cached to work) but if you have a collider that is not moving with the cloth dropping onto it because it’s cloth and the plane was not animated before you added the cloth tag, it should work. I’d probably have to see the scene.

    is the collider animated?

  • FWIW if you really want the detail in the Editor Window renders you can also select ‘Display/Use Render LOD For Editor Rendering’ which will give you the same detail as the Picture Viewer but it’s the slower too.

Is the spline Closed in C4D?

it depends on the implementation, if the spline is the same one for the sweep and the Align to Spline like in my tests – then what are you using to keep the growth and the Align synced? If that is xpresso it matters which one comes first in Object Manager (scripts are evaluated from top to bottom in the OM). In my tests I was animating the End Growth of the Sweep synced with xpresso (Set Driver/Set Driven) with the xpresso first and Align to spline second, if I put the xpresso second the plane lags behind… are you animating the Start Growth? Maybe the xpresso’s position in the OM needs to change. Other than that I’d have to see the scene probably.
