  • Animated Sweep NURBS Cap Texture not sticking

Posted by Aaron Stella on April 22, 2010 at 8:08 pm

I am a newbie to C4d, and can’t figure out why my texture doesn’t seem to be “sticking” to the end of my sweep nurbs object. I am using the C1 selection, and flat projection, and it doesn’t seem as if the “Stick texture” tag works for me.

Here is a link to a rough render of my video:

So as you can see, the stock photo (texture) is moving around as the sweep nurbs objects animate. I just want the photo to stick on the cap, and am about ready to give up. I got this far, now am feeling quite defeated.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

the problem is the sweep nurb is not editable so the flat texture has no ‘real’ geometry to stick to. The only thing I can think of is to apply the texture to a plane and use an Align to Spline tag to get the plane to move along the same spline you are Sweeping along.
Align to Spline doesn’t align quite the same way as the SweepNurb however and the plane isn’t always perfectly parallel to the face of the Sweep. I found it could be done by removing the one Sweep cap (not quite perfect but if viewed nearly straight on it should be not visible) or make the plane a box and use it in a Boole to make the boxes face be the face of the Sweep so it’s perfect from all angles. That nibbles a little length off the Sweep though…

Thanks for the info! I feel like it’s very close now, but for some reason the plane isn’t tracking right on the sweep nurbs. It is slightly ahead. Is there any way of adjusting this?

it depends on the implementation, if the spline is the same one for the sweep and the Align to Spline like in my tests – then what are you using to keep the growth and the Align synced? If that is xpresso it matters which one comes first in Object Manager (scripts are evaluated from top to bottom in the OM). In my tests I was animating the End Growth of the Sweep synced with xpresso (Set Driver/Set Driven) with the xpresso first and Align to spline second, if I put the xpresso second the plane lags behind… are you animating the Start Growth? Maybe the xpresso’s position in the OM needs to change. Other than that I’d have to see the scene probably.
