  • Just a guess, but I assume you’re on Yosemite? And doesn’t Yosemite have a 2 GPU limit?

  • Set up Media Encoder to use GPU. Done.

  • Sounds like you are using a FAT32 formatted disk which has a file size limit of just under 4G. Try a NTFS formatted disk or exporting to a compressed fomat.

I do a lot of Freelance Avid editing so I have most of my keyboard mapped Avid style with mods as it is less for me to remember.

    Re: audio meters.
I don’t shoot (unless I have to). So I rely on what is recorded in the field. Going through a mixer then transcoder and not actually seeing the levels jumping in the software is a pain. I would just be so much easier and reassuring if I could actually see the levels.

Oh and viewing audio levels in the source monitor would be nice too. Not essential but nice.

Thanks for the Replies. Some may be a matter of opinion but I think most are useful tools/details that anyone would find, well, useful. I’m not trying to make PPro replicate the other A’s. These are simply things that I would find useful.

    Here’s why…
    1. Render times and EDL(AAF) export. Also if I accidentally mess up another sequence it won’t cascade into others.

    2. I used to capture a lot of BetaSP through the SD Connect. With no way to monitor levels it was always a process of educated guessing.

    3. You can cut all tracks at once using a hotkey or use the cut tool. I’d like to cut just the selected track using a hotkey. I have to time out a lot of graphics, so I constantly make cuts and then make freezes . It would be a lot easier with the single track cut.

    4. Another big A has a Timecode tool that is simply a display tool. It can be resized, moved and told what to display. I like having it nice and big on my second monitor so a client on the couch 10 feet away can see how far into the program we are. Or so I can take off my glasses and not squint to red tiny text.

    5. This has always bugged me. The little bin window is so small.

    6. Fixed. Yeah!

    7. More precision.

    8. Borrowing segments from other shows is routine in my life.

    9. Shortcut.

    10. Fixed. Yeah!

    11. Personal Preference.

    12. Fixed. Yeah!

    13. I talking about mapping a keyboard. Sometimes I come across something that I would like to map to a key. It seems rather hard to dig and find it in PPro. Maybe if there were a search bar?

    14. It would be nice if auto save didn’t interrupt playback and waited for its turn. Oh well.

    Thanks again!

    15. How about import directly from CD?

Also, check your playback settings to see if audio playback is set to internal or external device.

…or it could be the number of sequences. In Avid land I would save a sequence for every day. In PPro land I use 1-2 sequences and save a new project file everyday.

    Hi all,
My current project (the 30,000 clip project that actually is 3,182 clips) has a size of 134MB. It has about twenty timelines. That’s the largest I’ve had and it’s waaaaaay too much for Premiere. I usually get quirky behavior when I hit the 80-90MB mark, but it’s very grey.

That was a week ago. Since then I’ve whittled away most of the timelines and a third of the clips and my project size is now 65MB. I’m more stable but still get hit with memory hangs and crashes.

  • (I posted in the wrong spot before)

    To clarify…

I counted all the clips in my project (excluding renders) and the clip count totals… 3182!
That’s it! Half of the clips came in via EDL and the other half were imported from other projects. Maybe a quarter of those clips are offline with no media on the drives.

Using the 5 second rule, that’s only a little over 4 hours (I have used 200G)!

I’m sure many more editors have numbers closer to these.
