This could be caused by a variety of issues, including (but not limited to):

    -Hard drive speed
-What resolution? (Cut at an offline res)
-Quality settings (green/yellow square on bottom left of timeline)
-Long Sequences tend to take longer to scrub through

No, do not lose your media files, that will cause an unnecessary amount of headaches. If all of your media was IMPORTED in the first place and you want to BATCH IMPORT, that is a different story. Avid Media files are located in the “Avid Mediafiles> MXF > 1” folder.

If you want to conserve space but still backup, you can use the CONSOLIDATE function, which means you take only the media used in your sequence, with handles of your choosing.

  • I don’t see why you’d ever want to edit through AMA- far too many performance issues for it to be reasonable. Transcode to an offline codec, DNxHD 36 works great, or even lower and you’ll be fine.

I don’t see why you’re insulting avid when you didn’t research properly. You should know better before upgrading an OS and it’s interplay with software.

  • Yes, if you’re shooting 23.976 fps, you will need to apply 2:3 pulldown to get to 29.97 (59.94).

To my knowledge you cannot offline at DNxHD 36 in an interlaced project. This isn’t that complicated of a workflow. Just make sure you capture at whatever offline res you’d like, and then also ingest/transcode to that same format. Make sure you have everything backed up.

July 1, 2011 at 7:26 am in reply to: Problem adding transitions need help!!!

Is there enough room on the heads and tails of the clips for this transition? You need to have a few frames on either side for the transition to occur.

  • What resolution did you shoot at? 50fps footage is 1280×720, not 1080×720. What are your deliverables?

I don’t know the DNx family for PAL, but NTSC I would use DNx 115 in Avid. You may need to download the XDCAM codec from the Sony site for AMA on 4.0, but I’m not sure on that. Did you convert them to mxf files? You can drag them into the avid mediafiles>mxf>1 folder and use the media tool to bring them in.

Don’t sweat it anyways. Final Cut 7 is a very efficient program, we don’t even know what version X is or is not capable of.

Not to fuel a fire, but how did you not know Final Cut X was coming out? it’s been publicized fairly well.
