    Hi Everyone,

I shot a music video with Sony F3. We shot in different frame rates varying between 25fps and the camreas maximum – 50fps. I would ask my DP but he’s away – it seems like when shooting in a higher fps rate the camera downgrades the res to 1080×720 as oppose to full HD which I know is common. Is this true? In that case, how would you recommend importing these converted files (I converted them using XDCAM Transfer app as my Avid version -4.0.2- will not let me import AMA properly) onto my HD AVID project? which DNxHD codec would be best for a mixture of frame rates and therefore a mix of resolutions.

I’d appreciate your quick response as I am a little stressed with time,

    Best

What resolution did you shoot at? 50fps footage is 1280×720, not 1080×720. What are your deliverables?

I don’t know the DNx family for PAL, but NTSC I would use DNx 115 in Avid. You may need to download the XDCAM codec from the Sony site for AMA on 4.0, but I’m not sure on that. Did you convert them to mxf files? You can drag them into the avid mediafiles>mxf>1 folder and use the media tool to bring them in.

If at all possible try out the 5.5 update (yes, you’ll have to pay for it.) It handles AMA quite a bit better than v.4; For XDCam, if you’re going to transcode to DNxHD, any format higher than 100mbs (145 for example)

Under your Format setting, see if you can switch to one of the Thin Raster (TR) HD formats before you import.
