Just put all of these things on the Timeline (part of your edit) and then just hit RECORD on the deck and PLAY the timeline.
I do this with all my commercial dubs.
You can set the TC on the 1800 to 00:00:00 (or any other number you like) before you record.

The other thing you can do is just “stripe” the tapes for 30 seconds or so, then ASSEMBLE-edit from FCP during the area that is striped.

What is the resolution? If the image resolution is too “large” (dense) for TV resolution, the small details can “dance” on-screen.
Try adding:
Video Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Set it to a very low amount and then check it on an external video monitor as you make further adjustments.

You should re-create the page in higher resolution first.

I think its called “Find Edges”.

Depends on which DAT playback deck you have.
A capture card or box like an AJA io with serial control for the DAT deck and various inputs for the audio would work.

Set the control function to NON-CONTROLLABLE DEVICE.
That should work, but it would probably be better to just record the VHS to DV tape first, then capture the tape in the normal fashion.
You’ll have a more stable signal and you’ll have repeatable timecode.
