December 26, 2006 at 10:43 pm in reply to: What Camcorder should I buy under 1,500Your BEST BET would be a good USED Sony PD150… outstanding camera.
But if you want a NEW camera, take a look at this…
https://www.comparedealz.com/prod.asp?id=48604&mn=3I’ll wager its not nearly as good in low-light as the PD150, but for a 3CCD prosumer, NEW at under $1500, there’s not much else out there.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.Download these free Apple Scripts at

December 22, 2006 at 11:38 am in reply to: Syncronization between ep and sp clipsFirst, I must assume you’re talking about “DV” format.
There is no inherent quality difference between SP and LP (you say “EP”).
They both run at the same frame-rate and the audio is identical. The only difference is “physical” in that the tape is pulled past the heads at a 1/3-slower rate in LP than in SP.
So, once you capture the two tapes, they will edit together perfectly.
But THAT’s the real problem… LP tapes tend to NOT play on any device other than the exact camcorder they were recorded on. That’s because the track-spacing at the slower speed is so CLOSE that if there is any imperfection in the head-alignment between two units, the LP tape will likely mistrack and the video/audio will get blocky and drop-out.So…
If (IF) you can get the LP tape to PLAY into FCP… you simply edit as normal… there should be no sync problems at all.I can’t speak to the specific problems of the other edit system (it would be no different as far as sync on that system) but I also can’t speak to others’ editing skills, either.

November 23, 2006 at 9:25 pm in reply to: redigitizing footage that has drop outThe reason David said to use another device (other than the deck) to re-capture is that different units can play the same tape differently.
As in, if a given tape plays with a visible drop-out on one unit, that same area on the tape might play just fine on another unit (camcorder or deck).
