  • strange problem with batch capture, urgent

Posted by Carola200 on December 23, 2006 at 8:06 pm

    hi all,

i am having a strange problem when trying to batch capture,

first of all, using a g4 powermac, final cut hd 4.5 and a sony GV-D300e-Pal mini dv deck

when i log the clips i enter the in and out points, press log clip, put in a name, a comment, press ok, the clip occurs in the bin

but when i then batch capture the in and out points have changed, if i double click on the icon in the bin, on the offline clip, it has different in and out points then the ones i typed in

    ?!

even more strange all the in points i entered become the new changed outpoints, the new mysteriously changed in points are of no logic to me.

does anyone know what is going on?

i cant find any place in the preferences where this might stem from

as i am working with a tight deadline and i have to capture asap, got about 20 hours of footage, so batchcapture is the way i want to do it.

any advise is very much appreciated !

    many thanks in advance

    carola

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

    HI,

We are running the latest version of FCP so the following is based on some dim memory.

As PAL users we were inflicted with a bug in version 4 or 4.5 that behaved as you describe. We had a PAL DVW500 DigitalBeta deck connected and had a suitable PAL Device control selected and the system changed our entered timecodes as we logged each clip. It was adjusting the values to a 30fps rate so this only affected PAL users.

This behaviour only occured if a tape was not inserted in to the desk at the time of logging. That is, if you had a tape inserted then the timecodes entered during logging would be correct. This bug was noted by apple and corrected in a point release.

Hopefully this is the same for your deck….

    hi matt,

    thanks for your answer,
tried the one with restarting and reopening, and also having a tape inserted
    the problem remained

so now i will trash the prefs,

if it works i ll report later

if not maybe i can find out something more about this 4.5 bug in the net

    regards
    carola

Go to File -> Easy Setup

Are you using a DV PAL setup?

Perhaps a workaround might be to create a batch list in a text editor and import it into Final Cut instead of creating the batch list in Log and Capture. The manual suggests exporting a batch list from Final Cut as text, opening it in a text editor and using it as a template to make sure the new one you create has the proper format and information.

    Regards,
    David
