[suzin daly] “I ended up force quit went back started over… I won’t forget to set the threshold every again”
If not that, maybe other things. 😉
In general, for all apps…
A great HABIT to get into is to hit “Apple-S” (Save) very, very, very often as you work.
Maybe after every, or every few, at least, change you make. This way, if you get a freeze, a crash, or other situation where you need to restart the app or the Mac, nearly all of your previous work will still be there when you open the app again.

December 2, 2008 at 9:46 pm in reply to: USB mic advice for PC or MacSome low-end “toys”…
Here is an inexpensive ($60) XLR to USB adapter to use if you already have a mic to use.
It includes Phantom Power option and a cable. It is a brand new product (ships 12-12-08), so I have not tried it myself.
(But I intend to buy one and see what it’ll do.)https://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Blue-Icicle-XLR-to-USB-Mic-Converter?sku=330275
Here is a studio condenser mic that feeds USB directly.

It actually sounds pretty good (I have some of the standard non-USB versions)
… and you’ll be compressing the heck out of the audio for web, anyway. -

Then, set the deck to “TC Regen(erate)” cue the deck to the right frame of TC and ASSEMBLE edit (Print to Tape) the rest of the Timeline from FCP.

December 1, 2008 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Great solution for adding 3rd monitor without FCP going nuts![Michael Brown] “One question though, the ebay description calims operating systems Windows XP and Vista only. Does this affect us mac users? “
As the OP mentioned, the Mac drivers must be downloaded.
QUOTE (Ian McFarland):
After you download the macOSX driver (does not come with it) it shows up in the monitor arrangement in your system preferences for displays as the 3rd monitor .
You can read more about the units from the manufacturer’s website-

November 30, 2008 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Canon MD235 Mini DV: anywhere (or any WAY) to attach an external mic?Don’t attach the mic to the camera.
That’s not the best place to position a mic except when recording “natural sound” (general sounds of the location.)
To record dialogue or interviews, you want the mic positioned just out of frame near the mouth of the person who is speaking.Far better positions for the mic:
On a boom, hand-held by an assistant when walking or mobile,
or on a boom on a stand when in static “studio” conditions.
