November 30, 2008 at 9:47 pm in reply to: mic level into cameraIt is possible to PAD a higher-output mic (like your new one) so that it does not “over-drive” the pre-amp on a more sensitive camcorder.
A pad with a selectable attenuation is like this one:https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=68600&is=REG
These pads fit between the mic output and the input of the camcorder.
The main draw-back is they add about 3 to 4 inches to the total mic length when connected directly to the mic, or stick out by that much if connected directly to the camcorder, or “dangle” if you use a short XLR cord to attach it.
According to the Shure specs, you can use this pad and still use Phantom Power for your mic.

November 30, 2008 at 8:50 pm in reply to: dropout video behind grafxCreate an alpha channel in the Photoshop image either inside or outside the logo area.
You can use any alpha channel image (a Title, a Photoshop image with alpha, etc) to cut a HOLE (in it’s exact shape) and “Fill” it with other moving (or static) video… all “keyed over” another video track.
V3: Fill clip (what you want to be “inside” alpha)
– Select (highlight) THIS clip on V3, then:
Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – AlphaV2: Any “Alpha-channeled” clip (or title generator)
V1: Background clip (will be seen outside the “hole(s)”)
If you end up with the “reverse” of what you want, swap the clips on V1 and V3.
Remember to change the settings (Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Alpha) on the clip that is now on V3.You can move/expand/reposition the V2 clip or even use it as a custom “wipe”.

“I mean you can record the VO using the same gear as was used on the shoot.
The audio will MATCH that way.
Set it up at the same distance from the talent, under similar room conditions.

November 20, 2008 at 12:53 pm in reply to: Suddenly stopped hearing audio in FCPSave your work.
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html
A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
Download these free Apple Scripts at
https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
or
https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

November 12, 2008 at 10:13 pm in reply to: Playhead at end of clip[Bill Russell] “…But just hit the up arrow to jump back one edit.”
That works… UNLESS you have multiple video layers.
Then, if there are various other cuts on the other layers, the play head will stop at each one, in succession, with each arrow press.
