Fuji is not my favorite brand.
Regardless, you might be better-off if you can connect two DV camcorders or decks TOGETHER vis FireWire.
Put both units in VCR mode (a deck, of course is ALWAYS in “VCR” mode).
Put a new Sony tape in one unit and get ready to RECORD on it.
Put the “problem” tape in the other unit, make sure it PLAYS in that unit, rewind and get ready to play it from the beginning.Record on the first unit as you make a straight-through copy of the “problem” tape.
Then rewind and ONLY capture from the Sony COPY (it will still be “first-generation quality”).I also use Panasonic brand tapes (hundreds of them) interchagably with Sony.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

That’s no surprise, the beeps would never appear IN THE WAVEFORM.
They are only sent directly to the output when “needed”.
If there’s nothing wrong with the capture and timeline settings…

If you happened to capture footage from a Canon camcorder (especially an XL1) it may be that the audio clips are recorded at a non-standard sample rate.
47.98 kHz or 48.12 kHz or some such.
Only choice is to render.

Yes, the beeps mean you need to RENDER the audio.
BUT, it would NOT BEEP (and you would not need to render) if you set your timeline to match your capture settings (or vice versa).
BTW, you can’t “change” an existing timeline from one setting to another. You must first change the settings and then open a new timeline with those settings.
Also, make sure your camera is set to 48 kHz audio sample rate recording (16 bit, not 12 bit) for best quality.

It would be much better if you did not use the DVD as the “master footage” for the NTSC-to-PAL conversion.
The DVD is already severely compressed and will not give you the best results.
If you DO need to use the DVD as a master, you can convert the audio/video files back to an editable form by using DVD “ripping” software.
