Yep. Make a downconvert any way you like, but make sure you change the timebase to 23.976.
Ae can do this, export the clip as a QT (ref), set ‘interpret footage’ to 24, create a 23.976 SD wide comp and put your clip in. Scale to your liking.
Render out to some 4:2:2 codec, definitly NOT to DV. (animation @ 75% is fine, more is overkill)

Next, you have to slow down your audio to keep in sync. Probably easiest way is to have AE also export the audio.

Encode this with an encoder that understands 24P and the DVD player will add the pulldown for you.

You can also have another application add pulldown, but why should you? This gives you way less frames to compress so you can fit way more on a DVD with the same quality.

Duplicate the layer and pixelate one. Use a keyframed matte or circle wipe to follow the finger.

Funny thing is, when you do so, everyone knows he / she’s putting up the middle finger and you just draw more attention to it. So, it’s no problem if you miss a part every now and then.

Not that experienced with the Sony, but i do edit a lot of xlH1 stuff right now. (I don’t shoot)

I really do not like the picture. Over here we do not have Setup, but every shot from any Xl H1 i’ve seen now (about 5 different ones) have ‘setup’, meaning you have to pull down the overall level by some 0.05 Volt (does not seem too much, but it really is a lot…)

So get a good demo, with a waveform monitor, and see if there are settings to be altered to fix this, or forget about this cam. Do not test the bars (the are correct), but normal test images.

Next, having no TC in on the Sony does not have to be a problem. I’ve made a small program that can read audio TC from one of the audio channels. So feed the TC from the Lockit to an audio channel, use my app to generate AUX TC in the clips and you’re done (with the advantage of continuous TC on tape for fast ingesting).

Sorry, i can’t really help you, but i have had troubles in the past with bins named ‘sequences’.
My PERSONAL opinion is that there was a grumpy coder at Avid that pulled a sick joke. I have NO reproducable workflow to prove this, but in my shop it is forbidden to call a bin ‘sequences’. We use other names (mostly related to our language).
Even if this is really an (intended or not) bug, Avid will probably never admit it.

So, follow your own path…

(and start rebuilding your work from scratch…)

But since avid has decent backup strategies, it ‘should’ not be needed (and even although i’ve written this util, i don’t use it for Avid, as it always goes right, unless you call bins ‘sequences’….)

we’ll, still on Procoder 2.0, and doing side by side tests, Procoder has nasty sharp lines where they should not be.
So, no Procoder for MpegII for me…

I’m only interested in having an encoder that resembles the original as close as possible. I don’t need anything else, as that is left for the editing.

For any encoder, if colors change, there is something seriously wrong with the setup (probably rgb / 601 conversion)

are you also going to a higher version?
read the avid manual, it probably tells you to uninstall with the original installer, and do a fresh MC install.
If you have a half decent computer, this should be done in less than 30 minutes with all options on…
Next, do read the readme’s, and set every little detail correct. Specially the graphics card needs a special setup.

Besides Michaels stuff,
You are in PAL. Procoder sucks in Pal for MpegII

If you want HQ MpegII, get TMPGenc, it is dirt cheap and does a very decent job, unbeatable for the price AND does AC3 also (a big must)
If you want to go a step further, get Cinemacraft. The entry level product will suit your needs, and is also affordable.

Mind you, both have a lot of options you have to wade trough, and prepare yourself for a day or two testing different settings. Also, get rewritable discs or you will end up spending more on test discs than on the apps….

Are you asking for recommendation on a TABLE?
Buy whatever you like, any table can handle the weight…

For long sessions, you need good chairs, good lightning, good catering…
Also, you need a quiet room. So get your CPU’s and storage out, or at least in a sound insulated cabinet.

So the wirering/extensions will cost money. Probably about 10 times more than the table, but you will have a hell of a lot more comfort.
