pixelating a middle finger
Posted by Kevin on December 20, 2007 at 4:19 pmWhat’s the best way to pixelate a middle finger? I’ve been trying to use a gaussian blur but it’s just not applicable to this crazy waving a finger around clip I have. I just want to create a basic pixel layer I can shape with a mask and move around on top of the image?
Thanks

December 20, 2007 at 4:31 pmDuplicate the layer and pixelate one. Use a keyframed matte or circle wipe to follow the finger.
Funny thing is, when you do so, everyone knows he / she’s putting up the middle finger and you just draw more attention to it. So, it’s no problem if you miss a part every now and then.
Just for my fun, why can’t you show it?

December 20, 2007 at 4:41 pmI use one of the garbage matte selections, depending on the shape of the mask needed and add it to the top layer with the matrix filter added. The garbage matte is easily key-frameable so you can set it to track the moving hand if necessary.
Just did this exact effect on a video last week. No one is on their best behavior this week, I guess.

December 20, 2007 at 4:43 pmThanks, I appreciate the help. I’m sorry – I’ve never done this before…is there a pixelating filter, or do I just blow it up?
Can’t show it because it’s for broadcast. The piece is actually entitled “Waltz of The Middle Fingers”. Drawing attention to it is a good thing. It’s all slow mo, too.
Thanks again,

December 20, 2007 at 5:33 pmThere is a free plugin from Too Much Too Soon called Mosaic, which is a pixelation.

December 20, 2007 at 7:06 pmI used a plug-in from the Hoe’s filters package called Joe’s Pixelizer for the effect.
The plug from TMTS looks a little different but it will work just fine….and it’s free!
