Do a full reinstall of AE. It takes 10 minutes or less to install AE – I realize the plug ins can take forever, but if you dont’ do a clean install, you are just begging for trouble.
The idea of being nervous about having FCP and AJA hardware being stable on Tiger is rediculous. Every day, there are NEW systems being installed, where only Tiger is available. If there were major issues, no dealer would be installing new systems.

If you use the BSG-50, you MUST use a 75 ohm terminator on the AJA I/O REF Input, and you MUST put the 75 ohm term switch to ON on the VTR. IF you don’t have a 75 ohm terminator – then go to the IO first, loop out of the IO Ref input, and go into the
Beta Ref Video IN, and TERMINATE the line with the 75 ohm switch to ON. YOU MUST terminate the Horita BSG-50 for it to work properly.Bob Zelin

be happy. You already own the Kona 2 and the AJA I/O. You have everything. When you need to bring your second I/O room HD, you will still purchase a Kona 2 – just like you have – to be complete.If you were starting from scratch, the combo of the I/O and Kona 2 is still unbeatable. Kona LH is a more “entry level” system that does everything. AJA is playing “keeping up with the Blackmagic’s” on the low end. (not that the LH is a low end card !).

Tiger has nothing to do with the flashing light. Have you updated your AJA IO drivers, and installed the AJA I/O control panel? When you do this, and open the AJA IO control panel for the first time, it will automatically update the firmware for the AJA I/O. I urge you to do this. Once you do this, go into FCP, go to easy setups for any AJA I/O setting, and bring up color bars. This will produce
a color bar SDI output on the output of the AJA I/O which should make the flashing go away. If it doesn’t, and you are SURE that you have a good cable, call AJA.A mixer will not resolve this problem for you. When you upgrade anything, make sure you do it ALL THE WAY. (You ARE running 10.4.2, and not 10.4, aren’t you? ).

You will hear many opinions on this subject. This is my opinion. Simply take the SDI video cable out of the DVW-A500 and stick it into the SDI video in of the AJA I/O. Select SDI EMBEDDED AUDIO on the AJA I/O Capture Presets, and you will have perfect digital audio between the Sony and the AJA. When you output back to the DVW-A500, push the SDI Audio button on the front panel, and the AJA will output SDI embedded audio to the DVW-A500, right thru the video cable. Keep your existing cheapo mixer, and use it for simple analog monitoring of the outputs of the AJA I/O and DVW-A500 – but don’t actually pass any audio thru it. Everything is SDI embedded audio. Simple, cheap.

I don’t know why you are getting rid of your wonderful AJA I/O box. You will now lose the capability of having BOTH component AND composite at the same time, and will wind up doing more patching. The AJA I/O box is a tank, and is a great product for the future when you have to upconvert to HD. The KL Box elimates the mess and rats nest of cabling behind your computer, with all the horrible skinny little wires that come out of the AJA Kona LS card. To me, the KL box is an essential item in the purchase of an LS. But if it was my money (and I LOVE to people to spend money) – I would buy nothing, because you already have a killer product. IF you don’t mind a rats nest of tangled wires behind your computer, then you don’t need the KL box.

please tell us how you are monitoring the signal. Are you using a HD-SDI to DVI converter, are you using a hi quality monitor like a Sony PVM-20L5/1, or are you using a consumer TV monitor? It doesn’t mean that you don’t have a bad card, but it’s pretty unlikely. AJA will be happy to send you another card, but lets see if it’s something silly.I have been in situations where I am told that the video looks like crap – I get there, and people have a good monitor, like the Sony PVM-20L5/1, with a set of looping cables (unterminating the output of the monitor), lying behind the monitor. I ask why there are cables looping out of the monitor, not going anywhere, and I am told that they are there in case they have to plug in a VHS machine to make a dub. I am not saying you are going this, but these are the details you need to know when finding out about a problem like yours.

I am almost 100% of the time using SATA arrays for all my FCP systems now (except for uncompressed HD), without issue. Companies like ProMax and Granite Digital are excellent. I have been buying from Maxx Digital in California to get the Firmtek cases. This does not mean that the HUGE and Medea products are not excellent – but SATA is cheaper, and SO FAR has shown to be reliable. But for “home made” – where you buy the bare case, put all the wiring together – just so you can save a few hundred bucks – if you are a student, then go for it. IF you make your living doing this, and people rely on you, dont be foolish – buy a solution with support.
The main reason most users are on this particular AJA forum is because of
AJA’s support (aside from the fact that they make a great product). When you are in trouble, support becomes everything. With all of this said, SATA II drives are not available to you, yet – just the host cards.Bob Zelin

your post is NOT a newbie post. I went into an AJA I/O today, with the updated firmware, and could NOT get any video into the system, until I
went to the Pro I/O control panel, and switched it BACK to ANALOG and component, instead of SDI and embedded audio. I had set this a few days ago, and the system was powered down, and when it came back up, it defaulted to SDI embedded, instead of Analog.SO, I quickly learned how to use the PRESETS tab, which is the first tab in the Pro I/O control panel.
So, this is NOT a newbie question. but the real question becomes – is this a feature, or a bug??????
