your 1685 seems to die ?
really ? I bet there is nothing wrong with your TS-1685. Since you are going to move everything to another NAS, setup the new NAS ( I do this for a living), transfer your data onto the new NAS with Hybrid Backup Sync, wipe out the TS-1685, rebuild the RAID group (static volume), create a SMB shared folder, and you will be fine. Once you stop using NFS you will be fine. I am telling you, this is going to apply to all the guys that are still using AFP, and simply refuse to switch over to AFP. And when Apple kills it (it’s kind of killed right now with Big Sur), they will cry. IS this any different than the guys that refused to stop using FCP 7 ? Nope !

Apple started to support SMB with FCP X 10.3. That was years ago, NFS is a mess, and
the leading expert of NFS, Marcel Bresink, always complains about how Apple has been handling NFS, which is not at all !
I have no “fix” for you if you continue to use NFS. I have weaned all my clients off of it. I used NFS at the beginning of FCP X, because Apple was not supporting SMB at the time, but that changed with FCP X 10.3. And now with Big Sur, I have been telling my clients – STOP using AFP, because this is the beginning of the end. There will be no more AFP, just like there was no more FCP 7, and no one wanted to hear that. Stop using NFS. If that is not an acceptable solution to you – then I do not know what to say.

I would guess that when it says “Currently unavailable.
We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”
I am guessing the product is end of life.
I was shocked to recently see that when searching for Promise Thunderbolt 3 RAID, it too says “currently unavailable” or “discontinued” almost everywhere.

if you simply go to http://www.promise.com,
on the front of their website, they feature the Promise PegasusPro R8. Go to the B&H site, and search for this item, and it says “no longer available”. So what does that tell you ?

this is not a suggestion. This is an ORDER. You will not transfer your AJ-HD1400 tapes to a DVW-A500. Video tape is over. You will transfer to a digital format, using a capture card from a company like AJA or Blackmagic Design. You will store this media on a hard drive on your computer, or a cloud site that you can access from anywhere in the world. If these are unacceptable solutions to you, then you will purchase an LTO drive from a company like MagStore or MLogic, and transfer the data from your AJ-HD1400 tapes to drive, now onto an LTO tape in the LTFS file format (software from companies like Hedge or YoYotta or Imagine Products). Now, you may say “well – I do not want to do this – I want to transfer to a Sony DVW-A500.” YOU WILL NOT DO THIS, or I will have you fired. Videotape is over. I will contact your boss, and you will no longer be employed. No one who is responsible would do this in 2020.
STOP IT. Transfer to a digital format. I command you. Who am I to speak to you this way ?

well, unlike the 2019 Mac Pro, let me assure you, at this price, I am ordering a M1 Mac mini, as soon as it is shipping. It seems “too good to be true” for the price. I already have a 2018 Mac mini, and my 2009 flashed Mac Pro with it’s Nvidia card needs to go to the recycle bin – and at this price, the 2020 M1 Mac mini is just irresistible.

why do you care ? They are all the same. Amazon and B&H take back broken stuff. Many dealers want you return back to the manufacturer. You are buying products from Western Digital, Seagate or Samsung. (maybe Toshiba). No one is going to treat you “special” and give you free tech support. Other good web dealers are Provantage, Newegg, and OWC. But there are lots of good dealers. You order on line, and your stuff shows up. What are you looking for – personalized attention ? This is called a Value Added Reseller. And you pay for this service.

well, I have a question for you Mike !
Do you trust OWC to take over the Tolis line and do a good job, and provide support, or are you looking at YoYotta for your libraries ?
