the Sonnet Fusion DX800 has not been made in years. This uses the old ATTO R380 card. Is this the model that you have ? The R380 card has no drivers for modern operating systems.
Please give details on this, and exactly what type of computer you are running this on. A Win 10 PC, an old 2009 Mac Pro ?

oh boy – I am going to get into trouble
I LOVE Paul Simon’s America (and I hate most of Paul Simon’s other work). What I observe in this song is a drum machine – sampling – not real musicians. I don’t care if the musicians are terrible. There are no musicians playing in this track (perhaps I am completely wrong, and I have no idea of what I am talking about). You cannot convince me that a track is GREAT unless someone is actually playing. Someone who is creative, and chooses a drum track, and a rhythm track and makes a really “cool song” out of it, from sampling – sorry – that is not real musicians for me. Redo this track – play it with REAL musicians – even if they are not very talented – let them make mistakes in your composition – then I will change my opinion.

Hi –
go into the Synology, and set a static IP for the 10G port.
Make it 192.168.2.3, with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
go into your Mac Pro 6,1 System Preferences/Network, and change the IP address of the SanLink2 to 192.168.2.11 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Click Apply
It should show that you are now CONNECTED and it’s green.
to confirm this is going to work – open terminal, and type in ping 192.168.2.3, and you should see 64 bytes over and over and over again.
If it works – then click on GO> Connect To Server> enter
smb://192.168.2.3
Connect – and the Mac will ask you to log into the Synology, with the name and password that you created in the Synology. The Synology will now mount on your Mac, using only the 10G port, and you will get fast speeds.
If you say “wait – on my SanLink2, it doesn’t appear in System Preferences in my Mac Pro” – this is because you have updated your operating system on the Mac Pro to 10.14 or 10.15.
You must disable System Integrity Protection on the Mac (which is a pain in the butt) – this is done in recovery mode on the Mac. Then you reinstall the SanLink2 driver, and now you will see the SanLink2, and can set a static IP address in System Preferences

I am fascinated by your reply, a few minutes ago on a Saturday evening. You are happy with $5000 Archiware P5 archive software, in addition to your very expensive LTO hardware solution (and God only knows what your LTO library solution may be, which is even more expensive) – but you are horrified by also deadly expensive Storage DNA solutions in Los Angeles.
I guess reasonably solutions from YoYotta, Hedge, and Imagine Products are just not good enough for you. I would bet money, Mr. Vorley, that you are an employee of your company, and that you do not own your editorial firm – because if you did – I would wager to say that if you owned your own editorial firm, you would never consider either Archiware P5 or Storage DNA.
But what the hell do I know. I am one of those loser people that relied on the old Tolis BRU PE, and now Imagine Products PreRoll Post, YoYotta, or Hedge Canister. I wish I could be as accomplished as you.

I recommend YoYotta (Hi Martin Greenwood) and Canister. Both are LTFS, both are great. I can observe a basic problem with what you have and what you are asking. You have an old Cheesegrater, and an old version of BRU. Unfortunately, that is not how this industry works. You need to give up eating, you need to give up going to the doctor, and start spending money on new equipment (hardware and software) all the time. I don’t care if you wind up living in a cardboard box on the street. You will have nice, modern, current equipment, and you will be able to do your job, and not deal with the insanity that you are about to face now. Buying equipment is part of being in our business. There is no getting away from it. Lucky for you, modern products from YoYotta, Hedge, etc are cheaper than ever and work better than ever before. It will just make your life easier, as you wait on the soup line, since you have no money left for food, since you purchased a new Mac, a new LTO, and a copy of YoYotta LTFS.

If his IT guys have even a clue – they know how to scan for IP addresses on his network appliance (his Cache-A). And notice that here we are on 9/24/2020, and Mr. Raff has not responded if he even bothered to contact Tom Goldberg – designer of the Cache-A.

everyone here is starting to make me angry. You old bags ( I am almost 65) are reminding me of the “I have this CMX EDL – how am I going to read this” – or “I have this FCP 7 project – how am I going to read this”. You ALL had fair warning about LTO LTFS for countless years from now, and you DID NOT prepare for this. This applies to countless brain dead people (yes YOU), that won’t accept the fact that Apple has announced that they will NO LONGER support the AFP networking format (of which SMB has lots of problems reading files from) – you will NO LONGER be able to read HFS+ files, now that the new default is APFS. My Windows 7 business computer just died – but I have backups every week, and I bought a new HP Z series workstation and OH NO – they now use M.2 NVMe boot drives !!!! – OH NO.
Guess what you old brain surgeons – THINGS CHANGE – and you better be prepared for them. I get emails all the time from my old clients (OLD clients) that say “Oh, I have these D2 tapes, I have these 1″ tapes, I have these 3/4″ tapes, I have these VHS Tapes” – well guess what, unless you are willing to spend a LOT of money – you are SCREWED.
Remember that DLT is much less that 30 years old (but DLT tapes last for 30 years) – what on earth do you do with DLT tapes ? What on earth do you do with Cache-A LTO tapes ?
If you do not constantly migrate your data to the “next thing” – then you are SCREWED. And here we are – Tolis is gone, Tim refused to go to LTFS, and so did you (because he assured you) and now he is gone, and now you are screwed. And do you know whose fault this is ? IT IS YOUR FAULT. And it’s not just your LTO tapes. You better keep up with your file formats, and your drives. Because I am so heavily involved with storage, and have been so, for such a long time, I would see in the early days of SATA drives, all these “brain surgeons” that would say “oh SATA is terrible – nothing is better than SCSI” – well, even 10 years ago – HOW DO YOU READ A SCSI DRIVE ? ITS OVER !
Deal with it. SPEND MONEY. Buy new equipment. http://www.hedge.video Canister is great.
Yoyotta is great. Keep up with your industry. Buy new products. Continue to think like a young person. I do not care about your retirement (I am applying for Medicare next month !) – but it is MY JOB to keep up with all this crap . DO NOT DARE to complain about how things change to quickly. You either keep up, or you retire. I saw this in the film editorial days, I saw this in the CMX days, and I saw this in the early AVID days. This is an editorial forum basically, but if this was a FILM production forum, and I saw old bags crying about how they can’t get their Panavision or Arri 35mm film transfered properly, I would be yelling at them the same way. THINGS CHANGE – and it’s your job as a professional to KEEP UP. Want to play with your grand children – go right ahead – that is wonderful, but STOP COMPLAINING.
