The problem is that only 14 seconds of the sample plays. That sounds very recoverable, but the unavailability of the remainder prevents the rendering of an opinion.

Stay away from Alienware! They don’t support their products, and they don’t know how to configure their systems properly. My most recent experience is with an Alienware laptop. I paid them over $1,000 to repair a video card problem with this laptop. The video card has just failed for the FOURTH time, and is now a few weeks outside their 45 day warranty period. I have a boat anchor because they have failed to fix the original problem.
I could go on, but what would be the point? This is simply the latest example of nonsupport from Alienware.

I was never opposed to it. I was just never sure what it was supposed to do. On top of that, it always crashed when starting (Vegas 8 Pro as I recall), so I was always a bit remorseful that I installed it. I haven’t even tried to install it recently. I still don’t know what it is supposed to do.
If it saves copies of old video, I can’t really see a need for it.

John is probably right. However, it has taken me a long time to realize that Vegas does not default to “Best” quality when it performs a render. I have been surprised by the improvement in quality that comes with increasing the quality level used when rendering the video versus what is produced by the default settings.

Since I have a 5D II, I was intrigued by the suggestion that a product would help with processing the video produced by the camera. My impression from those who have tried Vegas with the video produced by this camera is that there are very definite problems processing it. However, what I found is a product that helps synch the audio.
Sorry, but my usual routine use of Vegas frequently involves synching audio from an M-Audio field recorder with the audio produced by video cameras. That takes a few minutes. It is not worth 150 bucks.
I am also happy if Vegas is recognized and obtains additional support. I certainly don’t want it to fail in the market place. I am simply not impressed by an add on product that does something that Vegas already does quite simply and easily. Perhaps I am missing something.

I hope I am not alone when I say please do not post ads. For 150 bucks I can synch audio just fine all by myself.

If you mean, “Can pitch be changed without changing the audio’s length?”, I believe the answer is yes. I believe you can do this in the pro version, but I do not have any of the studio versions to check.
Pitch can be changed by keyboard commands. When you change it from the keyboard, I can see no change at all in audio length. For example, pressing the “-” (minus) key while holding down the shift key reduces the pitch by one octave for whatever audio is selected. Do not use the “-” key on the numeric keypad for this.

While I don’t think the windows media player is your problem, I do remember that WMP 11 did cause serious problems for me. I don’t remember what those problems were, but I scrambled to get the machine back to WMP 10. I still refuse to install any upgrade to WMP.
You didn’t tell us what the format of the audio/video is, and what you are trying to render it to. That might supply a clue.
