I have edited a video in sony vegas. it looks good when watched in there.
then I use “Make Movie” and choose DVD as a source… this seems to go through without any problems. When is as finished I say to send it to DVD architect. Which it does.
But now when I view it in there or make a DVD, edges of moving things like vehichles have like some distortion effect on them… like a ripple done the sides etc of the vehicle.

I can provide pics if needed but dont know who to post here. Also can provide some footage with it is needed.

can anyone suggest why this is doing this please

I have tried this on two different computers and get the same result.

If it’s a “comb-like” effect on the edges when objects move, then this sounds like an interlacing problem. Did you change any of the interlace settings in your project or on the media. What is your source footage? (i.e., where did it come from? camera, make and model?)

I’d bet dollars to donuts John is right (of course) and once you tell us about your source, it’s likely someone can give you specific advice for your particular situation, but if it’s any consolation, I see interlacing artifacts on cable TV pretty much every night. We’re just in that transition phase right now where there’s a lot of interlaced video being shot and displayed on modern non-interlaced television monitors, with the result that video that used to look fine on a big glass CRT tube telly looks terrible on the new LCD panel. But there are solutions…

John is probably right. However, it has taken me a long time to realize that Vegas does not default to “Best” quality when it performs a render. I have been surprised by the improvement in quality that comes with increasing the quality level used when rendering the video versus what is produced by the default settings.

Yes that exactly what it looks like. A comb like effect on the edges of objects.
No I used the default interlacing settings ( will have to go find where and what they are.)
I got my files (footage) from my Sony HD AVCHC HandyCam (HDR-SR7) which produces MTS file formats.
imported them into sony vegas. and when finisged editing, used the Make Movie and used Burn it to DVD.

The video looks ok with NO comb effect in Sony Vegas, then choose Sent to Architect. but once it has converted it and viewed in Architect there IS the comb like effect that also is seem on a dvd when produced.

    Thanks heaps for your help

If it is a interlacing problem, can you explain what to change and where. Thanks

I think I have fixed the problem.. Just filling in info here in case someone else has the same problem.

After much searching and reading, in which I couldnt really find any info to help, I played around with settings.
I found ( in Sony Vegas) under Project and Properties, and in the Video tab, there is a field called Full-resolution rendering quality: that it was set to good. so I set it to best and re-did the video to dvd. This time there was no noticeable combing effects.
I also have the next field ( Deinterlace Method) set to Interpolate fields.

at this stage this seems to have fixed my problem.

    thanks for any help given
