    Anthony

I too have been doing XDCAM ex and using FCP7 / leopard and i have found that either pro res OR xdcam require rendering, so i do not know if convertinf everything to pro res is going to save you a bunch of time.

besides its just one more place where the media can get f***ed up!

Wht the convenetional wisdom has been, and I have found this to work out, is to work in XDCAM ex, BUT use ProRes 422 as your compressor in your sequence settings. It renders faster than an XDCAM EX compressor,

I would do some tests as to your best codec to export with. I ran a test once and it seemed that either one was about the same speed (the only difference was that the indicator bar moved more steadily on the Pro Res export) Your mileage may vary

but the xdcam sequence withan alternate faster render codec has proven succesful to many

    hope this helps

    Darryl

I do this all the time. The client or writer goes through transcripts in Word and builds a script from the transcript, using the time code number from the question, or just after.

make a bin (what you call a folder) of all your interviews/testimonials.

load into the source viewer, and cue up each one through the timecode. THEN play the clips from their and mark in and out on the actual statement you need.

at this point you can cut it into a sequence, OR make a subclip which will show up back in the bin. If you are looking for multiple statements from a single take, you cna use markers as well (which you can later turn into subclips, if you desire.

just another way to skin the proverbial cat (cuz you know PETA would’nt let us skin a real cat 🙂 )

    hope this helps

    Darryl,
As Tom had so succinctly put it, It aint gonna happen with FCP

    However

If you tell us what your goal is, we can tell you the best way to achieve it using FCP.

something like “I need to be able to cue my source clips from TC notes in a transcript.” versus “i want to do something an Avid does”

so waddya wanna do? we be happy to help!

    Markus:

ja, im not sure of all the rules and reasons, but it seems that if you have two clips with a transition in between like this:

    _______x_________

and if you then mark an i and o before and after the transition like this

    ____i___x___o______

then you can overwrite the transition.

if you are parked on the outgoing clip and press X to select the clip, it selects the whole clip and the whole transition and will replace to the end of the transition

    YES! Very well explained!

And i think that behavior is new to either 6 or 7, cuz it seems you Always got the conflict no matter where you marked around a transition using 5 ie FCS1

(erm, like discreet edit could do over 10 years ago!)

    I am LOL out loud!

Its good to know i m not alone!

i need to start looking at alternative workflows so as to avoid working in XDCAM EX

I used to work with Grass Valley and CMX doing demos, and everytime Sony rolled out a new VTR, the Sony edit controllers would have the protocols for it right away, but it would be at least a couple of months till they gave em to GVG or CMX.
