even though the message sez out of memory, its not waht the error is about. I have had that message come up on certain video clips as opposed to transitions and it was all about a missing codec.
If you search this forum using the same phrase as your subject line ie “codec not found – out of memory” or anything like that, you will find other posts from people dealing with this very issue!
hope this helps
good luck

One of the big “issues” with all this modren media (p2, AVC, wotever) is that however you choose to store it will eventually become obsolete.
we have a DDT drive with a scsi cable and a bunch of tapes sitting on a shelf around here. Have we hooked it up in the past 3 years? no. Could we if we wanted 2? maybe.
Realistically, how long do you think the images on that media will be valuable? 2 years? 5 years? or til next week when the cient comes and takes it all?
We have stuff on beta that we will never use again cuz everyone has big hair and shoulder pads.
Unlesss you want to sell the stuff to a stock house in 20 years, i think a tape solution that will give you 5 years of non-obsolesence would be fine.
AIT is a data format based on a helical scan video format, so the AIT deck has a spinning head in it. I would se waht the head hours on it are and find out whats considered high.
also, you may want to do research on an IT forum to see how reliable the tapes and machines are.
hope this helps

October 15, 2009 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Error:”Codec not found” been there, done that, nailed it!Shane
Thanx for the snaps! When i first started, my boss, who was the cheif engineer and had a maint background, taught me about trouble shooting and working your way along the path until you find the problem (“if you dont see any RGB video, then the problem is before the encoder, if you do then its after” and so on)
I think it would be wise for everyone who gets into this biz to have a little troubleshooting savvy.
as for the slam against the error message, I guess i missed explaining that there were only 5 or so clips out of 100 (approx) that used the missing codec. However the error message kept popping up no matter where i started to play, which was confusing.
Waht was also confusing was that the error message implied my sequence was the issue, whereas it was actually a clip or 2
however, NOW i realize that the codec not found error message probably means I have a clip thats causing problems
thanx again!

October 14, 2009 at 5:22 pm in reply to: mixing HD and SD footage. Scale up or scale down?Hi
I used to digitize my footage at DVCPRO50 anamorphic, becuz it took up less space, and was faster for my mac to handle ie more real time.
Now we are using XDCAM EX, and rather than convert hours of footage to ProRes or a comparable codec, i am working in XDCAM EX 1080, and uprezzing where needed.
During the edit i just scale up the SD footage in a subtimeline and cut it into my HD show, but once we have signoff I use a tool like Instant HD to uprezz the select stuff with quality.
This workflow works well for us since each time we do a show, we shoot new material and gradually phase out the older footage, so for each show i am uprezzing less and less. (of course once our library is all HD, the client will want to start doing 3D HAHAHAHA!)
hope this helps!

We have a chain of coffee shops around the twin cities and they sell those oval stickers that say DBC for Dunn Bros Coffee. Maybe the employer wants him to make coffee?
or be able to go get it?

Good Work!
I dont know if its hype, or if it actually has merit, but one nameless software manufacturer (i am not hypeing here) has said that unless you copy tpaeless media using a specific tapeless media copy tool, which they make, or even the manufacturers, you run a “sizable” risk of getting corrupted media ie its not a good idea to copy these media files using Finder. Perhaps this is waht happened? your client simply dragged and dropped the files from his cards to the USB drive? It may be worthwhile to ask 🙂
Also, are you running the right versions of FCP and such?
I am only commenting not to disparage your efforts and outcome (it seems we are all in the format conversion bizness these days! dodging bulletts left and right!) but to note that my company have been dealing with various flavors of tapeless media for some time now, and by using these tools, whether the manufacturers or third party, we have been successful.
thanks for your info. good luck in the future.

My understanding is that XDCAM HD is a variation on MXF, ie MPEG2 compression, but all I frames, so each frame is independent, just like any motion jpeg codec.
HOWEVER EX is more like HDV, in that its MPEG4 using I B amd P frames, so the CPU has to work a lot more to “fill in the blanks” when ediitng, making up B and P frames and making them editiable.
hope this helps
