August 21, 2009 at 5:28 pmWoo-hoo! You’re right!
I just installed the update yesterday and there’s a lot of nice little things…well, little things that were really stupid in the first place but are finally fixed.
Speed changes that don’t ripple the timeline! Add multiple transitions at once!
I can honestly say, since installing the upgrade I’ve wanted to punch the screen a good 10% less…LOL.

Well, i hate to beg to differ, but…not working for me. I have a clip that starts at a cut, then has a dissolve at the tail, standard 30 frame dissolve. I mark IN a the head of that, then OUT where the clip ends…halfway through the dissolve…and then try to OVERWRITE the new footage in, and I get the “this edit cannot be done because a transition would be cut…bah bah bah” error. Same error.
Same happens when I try to paste a clip over the same transition. If it would overwrite it COMPLETELY…it works. But if it would only affect part of the transition…I still get the same error.
And I can’t see any preference that allows me to change that.
What exactly are you doing?

FCP7 aka FCS3
select a clip, press x (mark in and out) hit f10 and BAM! shot goes right in, taking out the dissolve.
My transitions are set for Start at Cut as well. I have not tried it with different alignment.

August 21, 2009 at 9:17 pmOk, I can only get this to work if the dissolve ENDS on the previous clip…up to the IN point of the new clip. I can add footage that way…but then the dissolve that remains still contains imagery from the clip I replaced….so that seems pointless. But on a clip that is part of a dissolve and the dissolve starts on the in point of the NEXT clip…I get the same error.
I might have to do a screen capture. This just isn’t working for me, other than that ONE way, out of three possible ways to have a dissolve, and that way that works, well, the dissolve needs to be removed anyway.

All you have to do to succeed in software is to consistently suck less with every release.

ja, im not sure of all the rules and reasons, but it seems that if you have two clips with a transition in between like this:
_______x_________
and if you then mark an i and o before and after the transition like this
____i___x___o______
then you can overwrite the transition.
if you are parked on the outgoing clip and press X to select the clip, it selects the whole clip and the whole transition and will replace to the end of the transition, BUT if you mark the in or out point at the midpoint of a transition, it isnt smart enough to know you want to keep the transition.
but hey, it is nice to know that you can add transitions to multiple edit points, (erm, like discreet edit could do over 10 years ago!)

YES! Very well explained!
And i think that behavior is new to either 6 or 7, cuz it seems you Always got the conflict no matter where you marked around a transition using 5 ie FCS1

I am LOL out loud!
