Taking an EDL out of FCP and doing a tape to tape online is always “high maintenance”.
you should also elaborate on the proocess you are using.
My suggestion would be to either stay the course at your online session, or bust it, go back to your fcp system, import the edl, recapture the footage, and fix the edl.
I say this because trying to determine what specifically is wrong is kind of a crap-shoot. ie
Speed change events will only change the edit w the speed change, and should not affects other edits.
what edit system are you onlining with?
its best to have an edl for the system ie use a SONY edl for a SONY editor and like that.
have the editor person make a copy of the edl and change all the timecodes to the right frame mode, so if all your tapes are drop, make all the edits drop. However some edit systems will change the numbers in an effort to locate the same place in time.
are the tapes wrong, or is it your EDL?
hope this helps

You Said:
another massive payment to Apple for another FCP discits like a thousand bucks per copy. If thats seems really massive to you, you need to look at your business model.
maybe 5 or 6 machines in the office dont use it, maybe you only get 2 more copies and set em up on dedicated machines that people can jump onto when they need em, and jump off when they are done.
and for every copy apple will allow you to install it on a macbook pro, so you can have a portable machine for When You Are Not Using Your Mac Pro.
Maybe you get FC Express for the people that do not need heavy editing
there are many ways to skin the cat without resorting to a crack
crackers are a great bunch of guys. they tell you that their hacks and cracks are clean, and yey they compete to come up with the best virus.
just the kinda software I want on my machine :()anyway, try some of the alternatives I have suggested. Sometimes everyone gets spoiled having their own macs and such. just good scheduling can keep the number of copies you need to a minimum
hope this helps…..really 🙂

Generaly, and i mean generally, Episodic TV and Prime time is cut on Avid, Feature Films on avid and FCP, and commercials now mostly FCP
however there are many tv shows cut on FCP, and studios are used to avid so a lot of features are still cut on avid.
at least for off line decision making rough cut kinda editing. For finishing its a whole different story.
to get a better perspective, look at trade publications like Post, Millimeter, Shoot. Always articles on who is editing on what, focusing on succes stories, ie high profit.
hope this helps
BTW, you can ask this question six months from now, and it could all be different.
