The EDL time codes don’t match to the masters – there is a random frame offset that has to be manually shift/matched to the rough cut.
In the EDLs some of the timecode for the footage is non-drop frame while others are drop frame. All digibetas were captured at 720×486 29.97 fps 8 bit stereo non-drop frame and all digibetas are non-drop frame.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening? If there are speed changes in some of the footage would this effect the EDL or could it be sequence settings and something as simple as non-drop frame sequence or a drop frame sequence.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,Ané

Speed changes definitely affect the EDL.

I put a clip in the timeline, and it’s timecode on the EDL was 00:02:30:25 to 00:03:12:26.

Then I put a 200% speed on it, and the timecode on the EDL was 00:02:30:25 to 00:02:51:25

Taking an EDL out of FCP and doing a tape to tape online is always “high maintenance”.

you should also elaborate on the proocess you are using.

My suggestion would be to either stay the course at your online session, or bust it, go back to your fcp system, import the edl, recapture the footage, and fix the edl.

I say this because trying to determine what specifically is wrong is kind of a crap-shoot. ie

Speed change events will only change the edit w the speed change, and should not affects other edits.

what edit system are you onlining with?

its best to have an edl for the system ie use a SONY edl for a SONY editor and like that.

have the editor person make a copy of the edl and change all the timecodes to the right frame mode, so if all your tapes are drop, make all the edits drop. However some edit systems will change the numbers in an effort to locate the same place in time.

are the tapes wrong, or is it your EDL?

    hope this helps
