Morten,
I have had same problem with a Canon HV20 and the connection with a HV40 is the same. The camera must be in HDV/DV IN mode then Press*// go to EXECUTE bottom right . Ps. Do not forget to connect Firewire IEEE 1394A otherwise DV will appear on LCD and nothing will happen.. Make sure the Export to Tape is at the correct speed in Premiere (PAL25fps), then Export to Tape in Premiere. It should work, if not press START button on LCD to Start HV40 manually.Connect HV40 by ac/ cable not battery, but, it should work. The camera will not be activated if the codec flow is not Cineform avi or similar (If all else fails contact Canon) we have done over 50 projects this way in HDV to pro tape and the results are stunning.
Good luck.
Ps NOTE : THE HV40 MUST BE TURNED ON AND CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER PRIOR TO ACTIVATING PREMIERE PRO WITH EXPORT TO TAPE.If you have the audio on in the computer you should hear an audio connection signal. If not, turn the camera off and connect again this time leaving the computer on. There may be a slight delay in the flow of material from Premiere Pro, when the Hv40 is on record the light in top right will go red and remain steady.
Ps To Momon using the AG, try starting the camera manually.

Hi Jon,
Yes you are dead right, I have got my money’s worth out of the system , I am surprised I have produced so many High definition projects which look broadcast quality on Pro tape to HDMI on a Sony 46″ 1080 TV, but, the system is giving up. I will need to upgrade when CS5 comes, looks like May 2010.
Thanks for your advice.

Brian,
It is a Dell Dimension Intel 925X Chipset, 3.2 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache,800MHzFSB 420Gb Hard drives and 2GB Ram. Which exceeds the system requirements for Premiere Pro 1.5.1 HDV Cineform up-grade and has been working very well for 3 years. Now after Importing H.264 MOV files from a Canon EOS 5D Mark II it crashes. So the same files were Imported into Premiere Elements 4 easily and accepted as 25fps not as previously shown in Pro as 2.5 fps. Premiere Elements after about 2 min of clips on the timeline says”Running low on memory , proceed with caution ” and eventually crashes. The assumption is there is corruption in the Windows XP professional operating sysem and needs to be reinstalled ? At a cost? i would be better to upgrade to CS5 and a new computer ?

Simon,
I too are getting the same message in Premiere Elements and causes it to stop or crash after about 2-3 mins, it was never like this . Dell Tech confirms 2GB Ram is ok and hard drives of 350GB. Says operating system may be corrupt and will need to be reinstalled. i will buy a new computer for CS5 first .Let me know if there is an easier answer.https://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403011.html
I also get this ConnAPI. DLL not found. APP Failed see above , obviously some corruption there ?
Thanks.

Aaron,
You are right it is the old version of Premiere Pro 1.5.1(Cineform upgrade for HDV) and it was working perfectly well untill the Firmware upgrade for Canon ie., changing from 30 fps to 25 fps , now it does not want to know the H.264 MOV files at all. However, the mov. files do open in Premiere Elements (and no frame speed conversion is needed) which is a newer version and I will have to upgrade everthing to CS5 shortly.

Your set up exceeds CS4 specs, I am surprised you have a problem. We have problems with MOV. H.264 files 1920 x 1080p about 25 mb for 4 secs. But, when opened in Premiere Elements and Exported to Movie as avi files and re-imported to Premiere Pro, it may be slow to render but, the result is very smooth Exported to Tape. Anyhow, they tell me CS5 is out soon to solve all problems in Premiere, as I believe many of the problems are there

Mike,
I agree Premiere Elements is no where as good as Premiere Pro but, we cannot fault PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS provided you don’t try to process 400+ large images at once, Canon Professional is far better.
But, the whole lot leave a lot to be desired.Freelance Imaging & Video

April 8, 2010 at 3:38 am in reply to: Premiere CS3 firewire issue with external monitor – only plays for 30sec-1min.Try new tape, striping the tape before use ie., record black . Check that all clips are the same speed fps, defragment the drive, do a diagnostic check of “C’ drive, remove all errors.Check all connections of firewire. if you are Exporting to Tape stop at break, render remaning timeline and try again . Join tape in new project and /or export to tape to produce a avi file and keep your fingers crossed. Reimport to new project if it works.
