can’t activate recorder try resetting the camera
Posted by Morten Soerby on March 21, 2010 at 12:45 pmHi
I have a problem that I hope someone out there can help me with.
When I try to cature Video from my new Canon HV40 in HDV format in premier cs3 I get this message: can not activate recorder try reset things the camera. If I set the settings to DV format it will work. I have tryed different settings when I open a new project but still nothing work i HDV. A bit boring when i was looked forward to HD quality and still ends up with the old DV.
For any replay, thanks a millionThe best for Morten
ps. sorry for the bad English

March 21, 2010 at 5:05 pmGo to File > Capture. On the right side go to Settings > Edit and set it to HDV.
Did that solve it?

March 23, 2010 at 12:39 amMake sure the Hv20/40 is in Stereo1 HDV/DV once you click on Start on LCD it should go to HDV-Out . Check your camera settings as well, I have done it this end , no problems. Check the manual.

March 26, 2010 at 10:48 pmVince is right but, make sure you have got the firewire connected properly otherwise it will tell you it is DV, I got tired one day and it happened to me.

April 2, 2010 at 7:32 pmI’ve had this problem a few times with CS4 working in PAL. Set capture in Premiere to HDV save and exit. Reboot your system and then connect the firewire cable. Then load Premiere. You should then get what you need. I’m not altogether sure this is a Premiere problem – more an interface problem. Windows sometimes gets a little confused as to what it’s expected to see. No matter, it always works for me.

April 14, 2010 at 5:08 pmI am having similar problem “can’t activate recorder try resetting the camera”. tried all sorts of things but didn’t work, even reinstalled Win 7 and cs4, no use. When switched to HDV in Adobe I was atleast able to control the Camera but no picture. Amazing enough this error only pertains AG DC200 Camera, but if I use other Sony or Panasonic Camcorders equipped with IEEE 1394 it works, not sure what’s going on..need Help!!!!!!

I have had same problem with a Canon HV20 and the connection with a HV40 is the same. The camera must be in HDV/DV IN mode then Press*// go to EXECUTE bottom right . Ps. Do not forget to connect Firewire IEEE 1394A otherwise DV will appear on LCD and nothing will happen.. Make sure the Export to Tape is at the correct speed in Premiere (PAL25fps), then Export to Tape in Premiere. It should work, if not press START button on LCD to Start HV40 manually.Connect HV40 by ac/ cable not battery, but, it should work. The camera will not be activated if the codec flow is not Cineform avi or similar (If all else fails contact Canon) we have done over 50 projects this way in HDV to pro tape and the results are stunning.
Good luck.
Ps NOTE : THE HV40 MUST BE TURNED ON AND CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER PRIOR TO ACTIVATING PREMIERE PRO WITH EXPORT TO TAPE.If you have the audio on in the computer you should hear an audio connection signal. If not, turn the camera off and connect again this time leaving the computer on. There may be a slight delay in the flow of material from Premiere Pro, when the Hv40 is on record the light in top right will go red and remain steady.
Ps To Momon using the AG, try starting the camera manually.
