What kind of avi file, avi is a generic term for many different types of audio video combinations. If you don’t know what type of file you can download g-spot from the net, it will identify the file parameters.

[Roger Glumm] “Do laptops have separate video cards”
Some do, some don’t, I’ve run the Productions studio on a AMDx2 with on chip video with no problems, they mostly use shared memory, separate vid cards are a bit faster(helps if you are a gamer) and and have some descrete memory, but also use some shared memory,[Roger Glumm] “What is the recommended processor/processor speed?”
A core 2 duo as fast as you can afford.A 17″ screen is nice and most large screen laptops have a space for a extra on board drive so you can be self contained for smaller jobs, Most laptops come with Express card slots, these can be useful for external eSATA drives, for around $270 you can add a pair of 500gig external eSata II, as separate drives or raided. it also helps to have a Cardbuss slot, also I play musical drives with my desktops, fastest sneaker net in the world.
[Roger Glumm] “What is the point of diminishing returns for RAM”
Most laptops have two ram slots which will hold 2gig chips,
Also 2gig laptop memory is almost cheap as dirt so you would be better off getting one with basic memory and adding your own depending on what kind of price they give you, same with extra internal drives. -
Its always good to pick a set of external drive letters well above the system designations, like L or M or higher it keeps windows from fubaring the drive letters if something gets plugged in and it decides to play musical drive letters.

I’m running Edius 4.54 on a dual-core laptop with Production Studio with no problems, I haven’t tried to run them at the same time, but have used AFX or PS at the same time.

If you have any SATA ports available on your Mobo all you need for a external SATA drive is a eSATA to SATA feed through bracket, they are about $7

Isn’t there instructions on how to move the files into your computer in the instruction manual? don’t they give you a USB cable? you could use USB to move the files on the camera into the computer and use something like Nero Vision from ultra 7 to convert the video

If this is so important to you why don’t you go to this site and file a feature request, that way Adobe doesn’t have to guess what people need.

Problem is when you move computers anything can happen, have you reseated the memory chips and cards? run any error checks, like memory checks, disk checks, etc??
