To add to Mike’s post, most DV cams in the VCR mode have a menu selection “A/V ->DV Out” On/Off, in the On mode it passes Analog to DV, in the Off mode it passes DV to Analog which can be a help as you can use this to help preview the video you are working on in a external Video Monitor which can give you a better idea of the final product. -

The drivers are easy to find and load, just download them and make a CD, also make backup CDs for the current system
https://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.htmlMost laptops nowadays come loaded with crap, after I had setup the HP to run as a DAW someone gave me a Thinkpad they had blessed with a large ammount of their favorite beverage, after cleaning it and getting running I decided to use it as a DAW as it came loaded with XP pro, there was a good reason the HP laptop gave me a problem loading the audio software(cubase) as it doesn’t like Media Center software, but since the thinkpad came with XPpro I thought there would be no problem, *%#@*, it did almost the same thing, it was the bundled crap that came with the OS load, since I hadn’t activated the XPpro on the HP I moved it over to the stinkpad and redid the original system on the HP with the production studio which works fine with media center

You need a converter of some sort to convert the video from analog to digital and provide the proper interface for the computer, ADStech.com “Pyro A/V link” and canopus.us “ADVC series” or a DV camcorder with passthrough.

What you are describing is usually a analog problem, a corrupted MainConcept dv codec can cause problems, you can write to support at MainConcept and ask for another dll, you have to tell them what version of Ppro you are using, you should also include this information when asking about a problem on a forum

Like Steven said, just cs3 will work with vista, problem maybe with the HP laptop/Vista(what version?), I’ve got a similar HP 17″ laptop with a TL64, 2gigs ram, two drives, same video, only mine came with Media Center(crippled XP Pro), problem is HP loads so much junk and crap on the system drive, I couldn’t load anything but word processing and junkware, I finally got it to run Production Studio by using a utility called De-Crapafier to get rid of HP’s crap, then I tried to load a audio program to work with audition and everything went to caca again, I finally cleared the drive off and loaded a OEM copy of XP pro I had laying around and haven’t had a problem since, only program that I found that doesn’t like the nVidia 6150 is Edius 4 and that’s because of the shared memory.

I’ve run 6.5 on the same machine with 1.5 with no problems, If you don’t load the matrox drivers for 1.5 I don’t think you will have a conflict

Viruses and malware are just part of it, there is also spoofing of commerce servers, etc., I don’t have time or inclination to verify these, just as there certain sections of cities you avoid if you are prudent, same goes for the internet
