Can’t install Premiere (tried 5 different version!) on new laptop with Windows Vista.
Posted by Todd Roush on July 20, 2007 at 6:00 pmHey All,
Vegas trial version loaded right up without a hitch, but Premiere 6.0, 6.5, 1.5, 2.0 and CS3 trial will not load or operate correctly on Vista.
Is this a sign that it’s time to switch to Vegas (Is this the PC version of Final Cut Pro?)
I absolutely LOVE DVD Architect and find it to be 100/1 the most intuitive disk authoring program.
Any thoughts about what could be up?
This is a new HP computer so there is obviously some funny business going on with that but I suspect the Premiere/Vista integration.
2.2 gig Turion 1600 FSB 2 gig RAM 120 gig and 80 gig 5400 hard drives, 560 meg NVidia Geforce 6150 shared unfortunately.
Thanks
Thanks.

July 20, 2007 at 7:10 pmFirst of all, only Premiere Pro CS3 is supposed to work on Vista. And it does that for most people just fine. What is your particular issue?
And no, Vegas is Vegas. Premiere Pro is closer to FCP functionality.

July 20, 2007 at 8:55 pmLike Steven said, just cs3 will work with vista, problem maybe with the HP laptop/Vista(what version?), I’ve got a similar HP 17″ laptop with a TL64, 2gigs ram, two drives, same video, only mine came with Media Center(crippled XP Pro), problem is HP loads so much junk and crap on the system drive, I couldn’t load anything but word processing and junkware, I finally got it to run Production Studio by using a utility called De-Crapafier to get rid of HP’s crap, then I tried to load a audio program to work with audition and everything went to caca again, I finally cleared the drive off and loaded a OEM copy of XP pro I had laying around and haven’t had a problem since, only program that I found that doesn’t like the nVidia 6150 is Edius 4 and that’s because of the shared memory.

July 22, 2007 at 7:20 amI think it’s “Vista Home Premium.”
I think I’m going to dump Vista and start fresh with XP Pro.
I’ve never been a beta tester for Microsoft in the past and there is no reason to start now.
I have spoken to 3 different friends (Engineers) who have all bought new computers with Vista and dumped it after similar issues.
Why mess around?….
Maybe I should take back the HP ….I suppose finding drivers for their stuff could prove to be a nightmare as well.
I hate new computers. Should probably go back to building my own.

July 22, 2007 at 7:49 amPS, Thanks for all your help.
Just a bit frustrated right now.
Girlfriend’s dad just passed and my tolerance for these types of issues is lower than normal. I don’t want to switch to Vegas although I know that may prefer it.
I will try downloading the new trial version of Premier again.
The issue I had was that after it downloaded all 680 + megs, the file was nowhere to be found.
Maybe I have to find “show files” in vista somewhere, but this is pretty basic stuff.
Thanks again.

The drivers are easy to find and load, just download them and make a CD, also make backup CDs for the current system
https://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.htmlMost laptops nowadays come loaded with crap, after I had setup the HP to run as a DAW someone gave me a Thinkpad they had blessed with a large ammount of their favorite beverage, after cleaning it and getting running I decided to use it as a DAW as it came loaded with XP pro, there was a good reason the HP laptop gave me a problem loading the audio software(cubase) as it doesn’t like Media Center software, but since the thinkpad came with XPpro I thought there would be no problem, *%#@*, it did almost the same thing, it was the bundled crap that came with the OS load, since I hadn’t activated the XPpro on the HP I moved it over to the stinkpad and redid the original system on the HP with the production studio which works fine with media center

July 22, 2007 at 7:14 pmHate to hear you’re having trouble, but I’ve been running PP2 on Vista Home Premium and Ultimate for a few months now without any issues. Wish I could give some advice, but I just really wanted to let you know its not Vista – a solid system, imo, that has been taking alot flack…

July 23, 2007 at 6:07 amHuge help to know that it is working with Premier Pro 2 and 3! Great to hear a similar HP system runs it….great for my troubleshooting.
Not ready to switch to Vegas!
I will attempt running the “de-crap” software as that has already been recommended by others.
The computer really is gorgeous on every other level so now that the memorial is over I think my “juju” may be a little better. Had to call the cops on the mourning drug addict brother of my girlfriend’s deceased this evening. Certainly not thinking as clearly as I would like.
I will retry with more patience, a better outlook and give Vista a chance.
Once again appreciating all the support from the COW.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
