Google “KeepDriveSpinning”. It’s a free app that simply creates a launch agent that tells OS X to touch a hidden file on the selected drive once every minute so that the drive stays awake. Works great for me when a firmware update isn’t available.

My suggestion for the fastest turn around would be to load yosemite on a single hard drive BEFORE you incorporate that drive in a RAID.

    Scott,
I’m running MC8 on a Retina MacBook Pro with OSX10.9.4 with no problems whatsoever. I was having the same issues you describe, i.e. having to start MC8 2 times to get it to finally start completely. It was also running very slowly once it was up and running. At the time, I was running OSX10.9.2. When I upgraded to 10.9.3 via the Mac upgrade, the problem persisted. I ended up downloading the full version of 10.9.3 and reinstalling the OS. That fixed my issues. Perhaps you could download the full version of 10.9.4 and install over the top of your present installation. Maybe that will help.

Trash Can Pro? LOL…hey, I like that pseudonym.

  • Hey Scott…
Yeah, I’m using a Kanex Pro with good success. It’s nice because it powers off an available USB connection.

  • [Scott Clements] ” Does this man I have to monitor my sound from the blackmagic card now?
In a word, yes. Avid defaults to sending the audio out to your external monitor. I work round this problem by connecting an audio disembedder to the SDI output on the mini. Then, route the disembedder to your speakers.

There is a 7.0.4. The subscription model only applies to v8 and above.
And yes, the dongle is an additional $500 US.

Yes. BMD Customer Support replied and confirmed this. Thanx, Paolo. I swapped out the BMD mini-monitor on my PC and all is well. I used to be a pretty big believer in Win7….but, I must say, I’m loving this MacBook Pro.

How did you do the update? It’s a known issue that the full updater kills Background Transcoding (unless Avid fixed this very recently) The work around is to install the full v7.03, then update to 7.04 with the patch file.
