Background transcode not working
Hi
Since upgrading to MC 7.0.4 from 7.0.0 (via 7.0.2 and 7.0.3 all in one session) I can no longer get backround transcode to work. I just get an error ‘Media Services Engine was unable to make a connection’.
This happens in all jobs with a variety of source media. All clips transcode properly in the more traditional ‘foreground’ way. Its just background transcoding that is broken.
I don’t have interplay or any shared storage, just one stand-alone system.
Has anyone got any idea what this might be?

How did you do the update? It’s a known issue that the full updater kills Background Transcoding (unless Avid fixed this very recently) The work around is to install the full v7.03, then update to 7.04 with the patch file.

Thanks for the reply.
I did go to 7.0.4 with the patch, but it was a bit complicated before that because I was on 7.0.0 and did three seperate insalls to get to 7.0.4 at least one of which was a full install (as it wouldn’t accept a patch straight to 7.0.3).
I didn’t guess that there was a diffence between the patch and the full install, I will unistall and start again, this sounds like the fix.
