I’m processing 4k footage from my F5 on a MacBook Pro retina. It works really nicely with Thunderbolt II feeding a Highpoint Rocketsor/SATA RAID system. Thru put is about 500MB/s write speed, which is plenty for 4K, 10 bit.I’m also writing to a Samsung 1 TB SSD, via Thunderbolt, for the ultimate in thruput. Both systems work really well.

For some reason, Media Composer has a lot of trouble generating mp4’s without distorting the colors. I might suggest you use the same QTRef files you used for the DVD(assuming your DVD is right), and input the QTrefs to a third party encoder. I have good success with MPEGStreamclip. But, other transcoders like Sorenson Squeeze also work well.

Avid FX has been replaced by Boris RED in v8.1. The old license for Avid FX and BCC8 still works in MC 8.1, however any new upgrades to BCC and Boris RED will require purchasing a full license for each, from Boris.

I have a Highpoint Rocketstor 6328. It tends to run very hot…..like Noah says…”wow, that’s uncomfortable”….but, it never sent me running for an ice cube. It’s normal.

Peter is right. There’s a reason the Cam-Align charts are so expensive. It’s very hard to find pigments that will reflect the appropriate frequency. To complicate the issue, most pigments are transient. That is to say, fading begins to occur almost immediately, so, even if the reflect the right frequencies to start with, they won’t for long. Making your own targets are, well, not an easy proposition.

The answer to your question may not be too simple. Target values for HD content is defined as 100%. You’d have to refer to a CIE Color Chart to relate the XYZ values to the targets. According to the REC709 specification,

AFAIK, Avid looks at 3 parameters to relink: Tape name, Timecode, and File Name
