I’m one of those old guys that believes in buying software outright and then grumbling about the cost of upgrades. Now I’ll have a new paradigm to grumble about.

So if I buy the support plan subscription for $300 per year, and I get the uprade from 6.5 to 7, will i lose avid fx (aka boris red)? I also own BCC 8 plugin. Does that go away and must i upgrade that as well?

Have any others in my situation dove into the subscription pool? How is it going?

I’ll post this in the boris forum as well.

Avid FX has been replaced by Boris RED in v8.1. The old license for Avid FX and BCC8 still works in MC 8.1, however any new upgrades to BCC and Boris RED will require purchasing a full license for each, from Boris.

BCC 8 works fine in MC7 and 8.x.. It doesn’t go away. No need to upgrade unless you need new features in BCC9.

You can keep your existing Avid FX, but not sure it will be 100 percent stable with MC 7 or 8.x.

Neither of these products can be upgraded via Avid as they are no longer bundled. You have to deal with Boris for upgrades,
