Using Blackmagic Mini Monitor for picture and Avid Fast Track Duo for sound….Possible?

June 23, 2014 at 4:16 pmHi,
I am trying to set up a simple grading system. I have an HP Dreamcolor Z24x monitor being fed an HDMI signal from the Blackmagic Mini Monitor out of Avid Media Composer 7 on my macbook pro. I used to monitor my audio from an Avid Fast Track duo sound card over Rokit 5 speakers. Now that I have the blackmagic hardware hooked up, Avid doesn’t seem to be able to feed audio to the Avid Fast Track Duo sound card. When I click on the hardware tab of the Audio Project settings in Avid, the blackmagic card is all that shows up. Does this man I have to monitor my sound from the blackmagic card now? If so, I don’t know how to do this. Any suggestions?

In a word, yes. Avid defaults to sending the audio out to your external monitor. I work round this problem by connecting an audio disembedder to the SDI output on the mini. Then, route the disembedder to your speakers.Scott Clements

Yeah, I’m using a Kanex Pro with good success. It’s nice because it powers off an available USB connection.Scott Clements
