Thanks for your suggestion, Jeremy. Very strange…I went back into FCPX to follow your instructions. Before I did so, however, I tried File > Share…and it worked normally! I have no idea why it took a brief holiday earlier today and then went back to work.

I will keep your suggestion in mind in case FCPX goes wonky again.

IMHO, there are still lots of FCPX users that are running 10.4.n, and that some will not upgrade to 10.5 until (1) Apple releases 10.5.1, and/or (2) They purchase a new computer with Apple’s M1 processor. Until then, I think the name of this forum is correct.

I stepped through your video on Vimeo, one frame at a time using Shift+RightArrow. It looks like the centered “Special Thanks” and names in the left column fade in together, but the four names in the right column appear as though they don’t have a transition at the beginning.

I use Basic Text for my Lower Thirds and don’t recall having a problem of different text fading in differently.

There are several third-party FCPX plug-ins for creating two-column credits. Some are free or low cost; others are more expensive. Most allow you to center the heading, and then have two (or sometimes more) columns below it. Since it is a single clip made from one of these plug-ins, everything transitions at the same pace.

I have not yet run FCPX, Motion, etc. under Catalina. However, I have read in Tip #1017 in “The Inside Tips” newsletter of two problems in FCPX 10.4.9 that may affect your decision:

1. You can no longer export Chapter Markers (File > Share).

2. Voiceover no longer works.

Other Apple apps as well as Microsoft Office 365 seem to be OK in Catalina, ver. 10.15.6.

Many thanks, Terry. I had just stumbled upon CommandPost yesterday but had not installed it yet, and I didn’t realize that it includes exporting the Timeline Index.

I installed CommandPost a few minutes ago, set it up, and exported the Timeline Index of the project I’m working on. Voila! Exactly what I needed.

Thanks, Doug. I appreciate your going to the trouble.

I should have mentioned that this behavior is not consistent. Sometimes the vertical scroll works properly in FCPX after I’ve modified the text. Unfortunately, sometimes the text freezes. I have not been able to identify what causes it to work or to fail.

In my most recent project, after my credit scroll failed to move I dropped the same Title onto the timeline a few seconds after the failed one and modified the text in this one. It scrolled as expected, so I replace the failed one with the good one. After FCPX rendered the moved good one it continued to scroll as it should.

I’ll review all of the parameters in Motion, where the vertical scroll always works as I play the timeline.

Thanks, Jeff. I do maintain several “REUSE” libraries for different types of projects that I do on a regular basis. The problem with my current one is that I thought it was a “one-time” need, so I didn’t set up a REUSE library…I just inserted the Titles directly in the Timeline as I built the Project. I should have planned ahead, but I did not.

So now I have a Timeline with Titles that I want to use in other, future work. Of course, I could simply copy the title clips from the original project and paste them into the new project, and do this each time the client wants another one. But I’d prefer not to open a Library with a one-hour timeline simply to copy the Intro, Credits, and L3rd clips.

Dumb User Error ????!

At some point, I seem to have set an In-point and Out-point on my “Left” clip, without noticing that I had done so. The In-Out range was only a few frames long near the beginning of the clip (which is about 1 hour, 22 minutes long).

Each new Multicam Clip did contain the “Left” clip, but of course only those few frames! The rest of that angle in the Multicam Clip was grey.

Rather than dragging-and-dropping, you might want to try copy-and-paste. That should let you position the Playhead exactly where you want to “drop” the clip, and paste it right there.

You might want to take a look at Final Cut Library Manager, from Arctic Whiteness (https://www.arcticwhiteness.com/finalcutlibrarymanager/). This nifty utility lists all of your FCPX Libraries in a single window. For each, it shows (among other things) the total size and the size of Optimized, Proxy, and Render files within that library. You can selectively delete any of these that you no longer need, to reclaim the disk space.

I’ve used FCLM for years. It has helped me to get more FCPX work done without running out of disk space.
