I’ve just noticed that in the video properties for the ‘bad’ clip, the ‘normal’ size was listed as 1080×1920. Setting the scaled size back to 1920×1080 seems to have resulted in a full resolution clip again – if this is true, should get rid of the need to recapture.

Is this your experience as well Walter – have you tried this on your DVCProHD footage?

Thanks Walter – I should have looked on the Kona forum. I’ll make sure I check that.

For what it’s worth, we are capturing ProRes (not HQ) as I had the luxury of advising this facility on their setup – and use plain ProRes exclusively for 1080 after the discussions on the Cow.

I would estimate that this issue is occurring on at least 1 in 20 captures, so far more frequently than you have seen it. I’m working at home today (with one of the bad files on a G-Raid) so when I go in tomorrow I’ll post the software versions on the Kona forum for FCP and Kona drivers – maybe I’ve got a killer combo here.

Do a search for ‘out of memory’ on here for previous answers I and others have given. It’s nothing to do with disk space or RAM – usually it denotes a bad project file, or render.

If it persists, the best cure is to work from a previous autosave.

A quick search for H264 will bring up a lot of recent threads – what with the rise of VDSLRs recently. Try a search for 7D as well…

Batch convert to ProRes is the usual short answer.

Have you tried changing the refresh rate (hz) of your monitor? It sounds like it doesn’t match your video.

Do you get tearing on an external video monitor? I’m sure you’re aware the canvas is not a full-quality preview, and no good for finishing edits. Have you also checked that you have the frame-rate set to full in the RT settings tabs?

Can’t check, but doesn’t Cinema Tools conform 60i to 24p? I’d be suprised if it didn’t….

Note that if your footage lacks the ‘progressive’ look when converted, you could use one of the many film filters to achieve it (such as Nattress) or (quick and dirty) just de-interlace it…

Late to the party as usual – and I agree with pretty much everything on your list, but really for me it boils down to two things:

1) Multiprocessor support for screaming HD renders
2) Making Studio an actual set of coherent products as Adobe have. I’d go a step further in my fantasy and wish for every part of it to be available without round-tripping, so you can just access a different GUI in FCP based on what you are doing – Grading, mixing, editing, GFXs….

Don’t suppose there’s much chance – Apple will probably settle for misdirection as usual – oooh look, a shiny new tablet 😉

Use the log and transfer tool in FCP to import the footage – under the options, select to transcode to ProRes – it’s quick and easy…

Even more easily, you can open the mp3 in quicktime player (pro) and export the audio as a .wav – very simple and fast.
