  • How can I edit H264 quicktimes?

Posted by Alex Bluffield on January 12, 2010 at 11:02 am

Hi – at present my online showreel consists of many 3-4minute clips which are 640×360 H264 movs. I want to edit these into a short highlights reel, but not sure how best to do this. Quite a few of the clips I don’t have access to source material anyone, just the movs. I’ve also encoded flash versions, but don’t really know my way around Flash to edit in that. Any suggestions, much appreciated.

    Best,

    Alex.

A quick search for H264 will bring up a lot of recent threads – what with the rise of VDSLRs recently. Try a search for 7D as well…

Batch convert to ProRes is the usual short answer.

You can use a program like Mpeg Streamclip and convert it into a quicktime file with a different codec.

    2.6GHz
    L2 Cache: 6MB
    4GB Memory
    Bus Speed 800MHz

Even Quicktime can convert the files. Try using ProRes to maintain quality.

Blackmagic Studio Card (working good so far)

I actually need to edit my clips together into one showreel clip. The only way I know to do that is in a timeline… I can trim the individual clips in Quicktime 7, but then how to join them up – hmmm.

    Alex,
A basic edit can be done in QT and without any transcoding or even rendering. Just copy and paste the chops you want in a new window and “Save as” or “Export”.
If you want something more elaborated, as have been told here, transcode and work in FC.
