I simply crop by eye, never worked about the moths and not had any problems.
You could put a slight sharpen filter on.

If you want things to look good upload to vimeo not YouTube;).
The ‘Sony AVC’ render as using one of the HD internet templates should work for both Vimeo and Youtube.

Dave,
thanks for that very complete reply. I have been watching memory usage and my box does not seem to be using swap so does that mean I don’t need more memory. Apart from low memory errors what indications should I look for. I am fairly technical (have build Linux kernels etc).

In terms of preparation “Broadcast Safe” is the thing to look for. google for “broadcast safe sony vegas” In terms of delivery medium just phone them up and ask for accepted delivery formats. Bear in mind that some people are a lot more fussy than others. I just googles for “MTV acceptable delivery formats” and the first link looks like what you are looking for.
I would however recommend getting someone in to help with final grade etc. you will learn a lot. Find someone who is up for helping and teaching you. Maybe a post on this forum to find someone.
google is your friend?
(but obviously you need to know the official terms for things first)Ben

Very odd, one of Vegas strengths is the ability to read almost anything you can throw at it. Your MP4 recorder sounds like it is using some proprietary version of MP4. This is probably to attempt to lock you in to the particular make.
Can VLC play it. In which case you can use VLC to convert media (goodle for VLC media converter).
MMConvertor may also be worth a look.
My rule for using ‘free’ software is make sure it is open source. This should reduce the likelihood of getting spyware/viruses almost entierly. Generally it should be distributed via sourceforge.

Thanks for your reply. I was referring to XP 64b bit, does that still have the 2GB for a application limit?
In terms of memory that’s interesting. I have heard several people (I believe on this forum) saying 4GB should be enough. I have 4 and have just got another 2, hopefully that will help. I have 2*2 Xeon 3Ghz cores.
Do you know if 10 is more or less memory hungry that 9?
Lastly from what I can see Windows 7 Home Premium should be all I need. Is there an advantage for me getting Pro or Ultimate.

I rendered the clip to a new file in a separate project with filter and timestretch. I thin imported the clip back into the project so the clip is now different clip which is played at 100% and has no filters. It still crashed Vegas at the same point!.
I did manage to work round it. For some reason rendering as HDV 1080 50i worked. I then loaded the rendered file back in Vegas and rendered as the formats I wanted.

I moved HD to another PC and had exactly the same problem.
I thought it may of been something to do with levels filters so I took clips that seemed to be causing problems, applied filter, exported and imported into original project. It is now using different media files but still same problem in same place!
So it is a bug in Vegas. Can I go back to 9 with same project file?
