Codec for mp4 video?
Hello, I recently bought an mp4 player that has video record.
The recorded video/audio plays on Windows Media Player but when I load it into vegas pro8, it doesn’t recognise the video stream?
The audio is fine.The properties are
Audio: 64 kBit/s, 16,000 Hz, Stereo, MPEG Layer-3
Video: 320, 240, 15fps, data rate 15296kbps, total bitrate 15360kbpsIs there anyway to get vegas to read the video??

Very odd, one of Vegas strengths is the ability to read almost anything you can throw at it. Your MP4 recorder sounds like it is using some proprietary version of MP4. This is probably to attempt to lock you in to the particular make.
Can VLC play it. In which case you can use VLC to convert media (goodle for VLC media converter).
MMConvertor may also be worth a look.
My rule for using ‘free’ software is make sure it is open source. This should reduce the likelihood of getting spyware/viruses almost entierly. Generally it should be distributed via sourceforge.

As I recall, Pro 8 does not recognize recent versions of QuickTime player and this is needed to play your video.

Providing you keep Vegas at the latest levels. He is using an old version of Vegas Pro 8 (two versions behind) which may not be able to load the latest formats.

If you bought a brand new camera and you expect very old software to work with it you may be dissapointed. I would download the trial of Vegas Pro 10 and see if it can read the file. If it can, there is your solution (you’ll need to upgrade).
