I think recapturing is the best option. The downside is that we would have to relog and the heads on the camera used to recird may of been misaligned, we have had this problem with cameras lugged around Uganda.

What I cant work out is why Media Manager wont reincode into prores. I saw a apple tutorial on the net doing just this.

Thanks. I have just looked at compressor. There are hundreds of clips in lots of different directories. Is there an easy way of just saying convert everything in this directory structure to prores.

Also some of the clips have been logged and subcliped. I believe media manager would keep this. Can it be kept with compressor?

II removed the cross fades in the clip and it worked. seems it will not relink if there are any.

So are you saying the 416 has the element at the front of the tube and the ME66 at the Bottom?

I have done a bit of googleing and cant find out if NTE 3 has element at the top or the bottom, would the NTE 3 be a better general purpose interview mic than the ME66?

Do you mean xFat or exFat. Gogeling for xFat does not return mutch (apart from lots of exFat links).

Can you please expand on this. Is is a speed issue or is there something else.

One thing I have come across is if you let the Mac go to sleep when it wakes up it has problems with NTFS volumes but that can easily be sorted by not allowing Mac to sleep.

First I should admit I am not a fan or FCP, AVID, Premier or Sony Vegas, I am a fan of editing;). I have over the Years used Avid, FCP. and Vegas. For the last couple of years I have used Vegas and in the last month or so am giving FCP another go.

There are things I prefer in FCP and things I prefer in Vegas and I like to think I have a openish mind.

I would say the fundamentals of most of the top packages are relatively similar, for me the big difference is how much time I have to wait for things to render and if I have to render all my rushes before starting a project. Unless I have missed something a lot of HD formats require rendering to ProRas before you start editing and this is the rushes we are talking about. So for a 30 minute film with a shooting ration of 10 to 1 that means you have to render 5 hours of footage before you even start. On my 4 ore 3ghz box this will take hours. With Vegas and I believe Premier you just import and start editing, importing taking a couple of seconds for a clip (or less).

You also seem to have to have to stop and let affects etc. render during editing, In Vegas/FCP you render have to wait for anything to render until you finish the project and print the final file.

The BBC have apparently just purchased 2000 Premier licenses.

I think FCP 8 is going to be a very important release, left hope Mr Jobs decides to take the Apple just works philosophy of ease and simplicity and make FCP accept a larger number of formats without rendering to PoRes, we are in the 21st century.

Will see where I can get one of these in the UK, you sure they are the correct adapter.

The other thing is when I plug in the AV mini USB plug the screen goes blank, I guess it thinks I am using an external monitor so turns off LCD.

Do you know how I can stop this?

OK, I just ordered a pair on these
AKG K 450 which are 32 Ohms and 126 dB SPL

To upgrade these
Senhhizer hd 215 which are also 32 Ohms and 112 dB SPL

As well as them looking a bit better on the SPL fromt they also have a non coiled cable (I hate coiled cables) and a detachable cord (actually they supply 2 cords of different lengths). Plus they are a lot smaller and fold up. The 215s are so big fitting them in the bag with my Sony Z1 is a real pain.

They are not totally full cup but a friend of mine has similar AKG headphones and they seem to offer very good noise protection. They seem to get favourable reviews and I got them for £30 which is a real bargain.

As for Rane’s definition I am afraid it only marginality helps, it seems to be mainly about Blue whales, while this is fascinating it does not really help me;).
