Favorite sections do not assign themselves to keyword collections, never did, they only get assigned to keyword collections if you assign a keyword to that section, also. That’s two different organizational techniques being used at once. What I do is make a Smart Collection that looks for favorites, or favorite ranges with specific words in the name (you can rename a favorite range in the Browser). So don’t use Favorites, just make the In/Outpoints and make it a keyword range, save a step.

F turns a selected range into a Favorite.

Cmd-K turns it into a keyword range, or remove it from a keyword collection. Or you can simply drag a selected range into an existing keyword collection, BUT if you have more than one range highlighted, it will drag them all. Which I think is happening to you, you have multiple ranges (Favorites) highlighted at one time.

Alt-X removes any selected ranges on a clip (but will not remove any Favorites or Keywords, only deselect the ranges).

But never has assigning a range to a Favorite assigned anything to a keyword collection by itself.

These are very basic operations that should only take a few minutes. I’d strongly recommend doing a proper FCPX training to save you hours of headaches and frustration. Ripple Training and macProVideo have the best.

If you drag the clip in the main storyline, the connected ones will move with it, unless you also hold the ~ key, which overrides magnetic timeline functions.

Or make make a multicam clip out of them, if there’s some specific advantage to that in reaching your goal.

The Media Pane only shows details about the media inside of your project, which is all in the timeline, or it’s not in the project. There is no separate media storage from the Timeline in Motion, this isn’t FCPX. Once something is imported, it’s a layer, it’s in the timeline. So no, not how Motion works. The media pane is not separate from the Timeline.

If you’re dealing with 1080 footage, H.264 is going to be just fine, anything else is overkill.

A few things to check here. First of all, make sure Background Rendering in your preferences is turned off (leave it off). Next, verify the settings for that Library. Select the Library in the Browser, go to the Inspector, for “Storage Locations” click the Modify button, verify what’s set up there. Make any changes you want to there. I’d also highly recommend getting a copy of Final Cut Library Manager and use it to manage various things, keep your disk space cleaned up. As for where to put your cache for the Library, keep it on your external drive, no need to split everything up on different drives. There are those who will argue you must, as a retired IT engineer, I’ll argue you don’t have to, unless you’re using a very, very old Mac on very old versions of the apps.

I can promise you, you’d have better luck asking the top companies creating teleprompter software to do this. Apple isn’t really paying much attention to video producers these days.

Some object is causing this, either a wall, or your camera moves out of the lights, look very carefully at everything in your scene, what is, or isn’t, in front of that camera at that moment, that should/shouldn’t be there?
