Setting I/O points on a clip before putting into onto the timeline

December 23, 2022 at 2:15 pmIs there a way to select a part of a longer video before you put it into the timeline? I don’t mean editing the video inside the timeline. I know you can use I/O there or the split command. I mean before you put the video in the timeline at all. With long pieces of video, it can be a pain to search within the timeline and then cut it. If I try to open the clip from the media pane. It just opens a window where you can see the video. In and out points don’t seem to work there. I also don’t see an In and out point timecode listed in the media pane.
I have used Motion 5 for years I never figured out how to do this. If at all possible.

December 24, 2022 at 6:02 pmThe Media Pane only shows details about the media inside of your project, which is all in the timeline, or it’s not in the project. There is no separate media storage from the Timeline in Motion, this isn’t FCPX. Once something is imported, it’s a layer, it’s in the timeline. So no, not how Motion works. The media pane is not separate from the Timeline.
