James – I have the same mobo as you and had the onboard firewire port connected to a firewire hub and that connected to a FX1. But now the onboard firewire port no longer works, neither does the hub and more sadly the FX1’s firewire interface no longer communicates with anything. I got a quote of $2000 to get the camera fixed; so I went and purchased a HC7 for $1300 and use it as a deck but the FX1 still works as a camera. The hub was suppose to be the protective buffer.
I now run a PCI firewire card in this computer and will never buy a Tyan mobo again.

Hey Bob… this may be of no help as I am in PAL land where we don’t have to deal with DF/NDF but I use the 15 deck and have any sync problems at all.

Bill, I started a new project and imported a PPro 2 project. The 32 bit TGA’s had their alpha’s inverted and it would not import the .aif sound files (made them off line). On attempting to re-link them it notified me that they were an unsupported format.
I will spend a little time later to get to the bottom of it all.

… and here I was think Apple actually made it into the 21st century.
Here is a copy of my enquiry to aja
product: Io
message:
Hello.,, when I use “color” and try and set the video output to the Aja IO it is displayed but it won’t allow me to select it. Is this a driver issue and if so will there be an update to address this?thanks

Hi Baz,
Thanks for your message. Unfortunately Color is not support with the
Ios. I am not aware of any plans of to allow Color to support the Io
boxes or if it is even possible.Regards,

Yeah its great. I use it when doing colourgrading the HDV timeline although it would be even better it ‘Color’ could output thru it.

I do this all the time and I do it in HiDef.
If I have a HDCAM or HDV I encode as a 1920×1080 m2t file and burn to a standard DVD as data. Then that plays as a data disk on the PS3 in full high def. You get about 30 mins on a 4.7. I haven’t yet tried these on a standard Blu-Ray player. Anyone?
As soon as I get my CS3 I will be able to make ‘loopable’ DVD’s for the CS3 for in store HiDef ‘play-all-day’ presentations.

I am just finishing a HDV project on FCP 6 that was ‘off lined’ using FCP 5 in DV mode. It was all captured as DV from the HDV tapes and there was about 15% SD content.
I imported the final ‘off line’ project into FCP 6 (and it came up with the ‘shift fields’ error and I just ignored it). Then I used Media Manager and created the new project and selected the ‘copy’ feature so as to retain ALL the required media as DV (as there was about 15% that I needed for the on line).
Then after opening the new ‘managed’ project I proceeded to identify the required HDV material, set it to ‘disconnect’ and delete from disk and then batch captured the HDV clips (*** remember to uncheck the “Create new clip on Start/Stop” *** ).
It was all rather painless and totally accurate. There were all these error messages that appeared but I just ignored them.
One thing that was a problem was that on some of the original capture (using FCP 5) the timecodes were totally wrong. It was done using ‘capture now’ and of course some of the HDV tapes had timecode holes which FCP picked up on but occasionally got the timecode wrong. Anyhow these timecode errors were never detected untill it got to the on line edit. So what I came up with was to open the original ‘off line’ project and re-enter the correct timecode to the affected clips (comparing them to the original clips). Then I used Media Manager to create a temporary new project but this time selected ‘make offline’. Then it was a simple matter of batch capturing those clips from the temporary new project and then going to the main ‘on line’ project and reconnecting. All that was left to do was delete the temporary project.
One thing I did notice and I guess it is a FCP bug… I had one clip that had the wrong timecode from the start. After working out the offset it required me to set the timecode start to 2 frames less than zero so as to get the correct clip timecode. So this required me to set the start timecode to 23:59:59:23 (I am in PAL land) and then the clip played in FCP with what appeared to be the correct required timecode. But it would fail in MM and make it one whole 55 min clip. So I opened the ‘altered timecode’ clip using Quicktime and set it to display timecode. It showed the timecode starting at 23:59:59:23 as required but as it ascended to zero it went 24:00:00:00 which is obviously wrong. But I thought maybe that was a quicktime thing but by setting the clips timecode in FCP to start at 00:00:00:00 rather than 23:59:59:23 allowed MM to do its job correctly (and I made the 2 frame adjustments in the on line).
So in summary it is the most success I have ever had using Media manager now that I am running FCP 6 but for others it doesn’t seem to be the case.

PPro 2 has a bug (or at least their media management app that runs in the background). It thinks the renders are redundent usually because the area had been rendered more than once.
I am hoping CS3 has addressed this issue and I will soon be finding out

[Shane Ross] “FCP isn’t Premiere…so many of the commands and features will be different. Premiere isn’t FCP…and it will lack much of what FCP does.”
Yeah I am aware of all that although they are very similar in many ways also. Its just me coming to grips with both a new editing app AND a different platform. But the APPLE+F did the trick. Just as a matter of interest I need it as I am doing an online HDV conform from a project edited as DV from the down converted HDV. Just need it to check that it was all doing things accurately.

[Tom Wolsky] “Which sequence would it look in?”
when you use “find in sequence” with Premiere it provides a pull down with all the occurances of the clip in any and all sequences; then you can click on any entry and it will open that sequence with the required clip selected.
