Not exactly — that only applies for 720 mode.
For 1080 mode it’ll always record 60 fields. The difference is, if you use 1080/24pA, FCP can strip out the pulldown and then the file on your hard disk will be 23.976p and not 30i or 60i. During the FCP import the conversion happens and the duplicate fields are discarded.

You should never, under any circumstances, de-interlace progressive footage; the only thing that accomplishes is to cut your resolution in half.
I’m no FCP expert but I’ve done this before; eExport a single frame from FCP and then resize and correct the aspect ratio in PhotoShop.

Inform your DP that he must use the 1080/24pA setting, and not the 1080/24P setting. That will help your workflow quite a bit.
And use FCP 5.1.1 at a bare minimum, 5.1.2 would be much better (as soon as it’s released, which should be within the next three weeks). FCP 5.1.2 has, I believe, a 1080/24pA easy setup which will make this whole process extremely simple.

On a Mac, yes. On the PC importing from the card works fine, but not on the Mac. On the Mac you have to import from a hard disk or you run the (very tiny) risk of an occasional bit of corruption in a frame here or there.

That’s what I was talking about. That’s what the question was — a way to make the FS-100 capture in the same way as 24pN. It doesn’t yet, it will be able to in the next firmware revision.

The thing is, you don’t have to be quite so concerned about the HVX getting new features because it has the ability to take a downloaded firmware update. I don’t know if we’ll see an “HVX200A” any time soon or not, but they have the ability to make changes and have you download the new firmware. This wasn’t possible on the DVX so we had DVX100, DVX100A, DVX100B… but with the HVX an update doesn’t necessarily mean a new version of the hardware, it could be just a file you download from the Panasonic website.

Let me take a wild guess … you’re using a Mac, right?
This is not a P2 issue. It’s a Mac issue. Macs sometimes glitch like this when you import a card. It never happens on a PC, I’ve done hundreds of cards transferred on a PC (and subsequently imported and edited on a Mac, no glitches ever). But if you do a direct import from the card to the Mac, this can happen.
Look at your original footage back in-camera and you’ll see there are no glitches in the recording at all. It happens when you transfer the card to a Mac.
Are you importing directly on a G4 Powerbook through the slot? Or are you using the camera as a card reader and importing in PC mode by using 1394 DEVICE mode? Let’s get some evidence to Apple and Panasonic and get this fixed once and for all!

Not yet. They announced a future firmware release that will do exactly that, but it’s not slated to come out for a couple of months.

There’s an adapter coming from http://www.duel-systems.com, they just updated their website to show it. No idea when it’ll be available, but it looks like they’re in the beta-testing stage now.
