100′ away? Sure. I don’t have the 1000, I have the 3000is, and right next to your subject it’s loud. Very quiet for a generator, but it’s still a generator. A hundred feet away, behind some big structure, it should be just great.But the problem then becomes running adequate electrical cords 100′; you’d need some thick cable to avoid losing too much to resistance.

DVX doesn’t have “white clip” settings, and the original DVX didn’t have a separate knee control.
There is a super-secret service menu you can get into, but I don’t remember the button-press combination and I don’t think there was anything in there that would let you control those type of features anyway.

The DVX is a 4:3 camera. It shoots 4:3 video.
If you want 16:9 video, it electronically stretches the center of the 4:3 image to become 16:9. You can’t have both 4:3 and 16:9 without some compromise; this is how the DVX does it. The DVX (and all 4:3 cameras) has to do it that way.

DVX doesn’t have 16:9 chips, so no, the image doesn’t get wider when you go into 16:9 mode. It just crops off the top and bottom of the image.

The only one that works at all is the Century 1.6x and 2.0x teleconverters. The cheap ones on the market are not worth the price of shipping to get ’em. In the last four years I don’t think any other manufacturer has yet produced a workable, quality teleconverter; maybe 16x9inc but if they did I’m not aware of it. Save yourself some heartache, hassle, pain, aggravation, and money — forget the cheapo $100 adapters, and start looking at the Century 1.6x and 2.0x. (I say Century, but I should probaby say Schneider, as I think they’re now selling them under their Schneider Optics brand).

You’re using 720/24p mode, instead of 720/24pN. Put it in 24pN and you’ll see the slow-mo effect immediately on playback.

When you capture DV material through SDI, you’re not going to get more information than was on the tape in the first place. But, sometimes those capture cards will perform a chroma smoothing operation, or otherwise attempt to interpolate 4:1:1 into 4:2:2. Doesn’t hurt, and can make the footage look better. You can get a similar benefit by using your NLE’s chroma smoothing filter, or something like Nattress’ chroma smoother.
Working in the 10-bit realm definitely has advantages over working in 8-bit. But the point is, your footage is 8-bit. If you convert it to 10-bit via one of those cards, or by rendering in software, either way you should end up with the same result. The main benefit to those cards is for working with footage that’s other than DV; you can use ’em with BetaSP or Digital Betacam, etc.
